Sport Engine Mounts

Okay, so I was "eye-balling" my trans. mount today, seems I can get it out of there without a press?
Bill, why not use the nylon 993 motorsport mount? It looks to be quite a bit more rigid when compared to a stiffer version of the rubber one? ...do you think it'll be too stiff?
I read the tips for the new Weltmeister mount and it requires pressing it in, I'm assuming this is because it's aluminum and ABSOLUTELY rigid!??
...still too expensive for me!

Jeff,
Maybe the 993 mount is better for a dedicated racer. I don't have any information that says that one is better than the other.
You may also want to look at this aftermarket acccessory here.

Hmmm, I kinda like that little "doo-hickie"!
I would imagine that coupled with an RSR or 993 motorsport mount would make for one firm transmission!??
Still, can anyone tell me if the MAIN tranmission mount needs to be pressed in or out? ...I still haven't tried to pop my original mount out just yet, but will, just for sport - over the holidays.

Jeff, you will need to press the old mount out and will probably destroy it.

I would recommend the solid billet mounts for a occasional street/track car. You can use the "sport" mounts which are just C4 engine mounts.
The Cup trans mount is solid rubber. The RSR mount has four holes in it 90 deg. apart and is slightly more rigid than stock. We have been machining mounts out of Delrin, which I think is the best solution as it fits exact. We have used billet mounts in the past and have always ended up having to drill and tap the tail housing at the mount to secure the mount. We found that it would end up "walking" out of the housing without this.

The RS mounts are not used in the C4, part numbers different I don't know if they may look the same or not. The RS trans mount and the RSR/Cup trans mount look identical and come from the same mold but are different hardness rubber. There is some more noise in the car with the RSR replacing the RS.
I takes a lot of force to extract the original transmission mount. You need to use a press with the trans out of the car. Or, I made a tool that uses a bolt as a puller to remove the original mount while trans in the car. It worked great and did not destroy the mount and was also used to pull in the new mount. Tool is pictured above the RSR trans mount, which is above an RS engine mount.

David, thanks for the offer, and it's a good one...but I don't think I'm ready to go SOLID as of yet.
I'm sure someone else might take you up on that kind offer, the mounts pictured are the ones I remember seeing in a Weltmeister ad, thought it was in the Performance Products catalogue or something??
They look pretty cool, but I remember some $200 + price tag attached to them...not sure.
I think I might go for the RSR upgrade like Cupcar...so Cupcar - what would it take to get you to ship that nifty tool of yours to Virginia for a few days?

Check with Steve Weiner at Rennsport in Portland, OR. He has a better price on the RSR tranny mount. This Cup Car guy is some clever dude! He probably works at a GAS STATION ...and has a lot of time off to come up with these great posts and ideas! Go Cup Car!!!
