Post Keyless Entry

I recently had one of my locks freeze after a car wash which prompted me to wonder if there was ever a keyless entry option in a 1990 C4. Is there a factory option? Is there a factory upgrade? Is there an aftermarket solution? Thankfully, it was only one lock that froze, but in the interest of not getting locked out again...

Any ideas?? <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

Eddie,

I have an alarmsystem installed that uses the keyless option to not just activate/deactivate the alarm, but also to close/open the doors. I had it installed at the dealer.

Eddie,

I don't think keyless entry was ever an option on the '90 cars. Perhaps Adrian can tell us if and when it was ever an option on the 964 series.

Like Arthur, I had an aftermarket alarm installed (Viper/Python by DEI) that has the keyless entry feature. As long as your car has central locking, it's pretty easy for an aftermarket alarm installer to upgrade it to keyless entry.

I think it goes without saying that you want a good shop to do the installation -- one that has done lots of quality work, and has worked on 911's.

Good luck!

My car also has keyless entry thanks to the Clifford alarm system installed by the PO. He told me it was installed by a shop with a proven track record for working on European sports cars. It has worked great for me for over a year now.

Keyless entry or immobilizer alarms were never a factory installed option. Some systems were installed by dealers on arrival. I know this was the case with immobilizers in the UK. The rest are all aftermarket regardless of what the PO actually says. I know that the new used Porsche division at Porsche Zentrum will install such things as well, if requested, and your pockets are deep enough,

Talking about keyless entry. I just found this product on sale at Albert. Very reasonable price. The problem is the part number of the control unit. Anyway, I will look into this,
