Bilstein PSS9 kit for 964, would it sell?
Bilstein makes a performance shock/spring ("coilover") kit for the 993 chassis. The kit consists of springs and externally adjustable Bilstein shocks.I think the external adjustment feature would make these shocks ideal for street track use. The 993 kit is quite popular but Bilstein does not think it would sell for the 964 chassis. I have a contact at Bilstein who is interested in what this board has to say about this, would you buy them??? Go to link below, click on "suspension" in menu to right of screen, then select "Bilstein PSS9" under the P93 menu for picture of 993 kit.PSS9 Source Link

I think Bilstein under estimate the market for suspension upgrades/modification especially amongst owners of standard softer sprung 964's.
They only have to dip in to this forum. Looking at previous postings this has been a constant hot topic (together with ECU chips!!!)

If I recall, FVD sells this kit for 964's and 993's already, and I want to say I've seen it in at least one other listing for 964's. Wonder if that's just the 993 kit?

They would have sold me a setup like that if it existed last June...but they're out of luck for the meantime - I used a set of their "HD" shocks with H&R sport/lowering springs for a 965, seems to work well.
Also, notice they do not produce a "sport" shock for the 964, instead, they have an "HD" (heavy duty) version. I really couldn't get a clear response out of them as to why??
As for market, hmmmmmmmm, out of 3XX RS America's in the country, I'll bet at least 100 of them have opted for a stiffer setup past the "M030" option, that's just the RSAs! I would guess that there are a few thousand 964 C2 owners that have upgraded their suspension for track events, etc. as well. WHY do I continually run into evidence that manufacturers don't think they would have enough market to justify their product for a 964??
I see LOTS of 964s on the track. I personally believe these are one of the best track cars to own for your average "track junkie"...once you stiffen the suspension a bit, get better sway bars and 17" wheels on it, that 3.6 really powers it out of the turns and onto the straights. It really is a "valid" car to enter the track with.
It really annoys me to find these companies that think there's not enough market for these cars! They were made for five years, how many years was the 993 produced?? WHY are there so many suspension upgrades for them?

Jeff,
One could say they do produce a sport shock, it's for the Carrera RS. When I ordered matching Carrera RS struts/shocks/springs from Porsche, I got one Porsche-logo'd Bilstein manufactured strut in the front and one Bilstein-logo'd strut, both in Porsche boxes. I can let you know the Bilstein strut number if you want.

Not true,
Currently out of stock on the 964 version. Available again next month. We were involved in the R&D of both applications. 964 app is sport shocks. (not the same Bill)
Cheers

Below are the current 964 listings from Regular and Motorsport Bilstein Catalogs. Note that the RSR shocks are actually softer than the RS shock!! This is where external adjustment would be nice. Don't know valving on the Standard HD shocks.

Couldn't get edit function to work, the valving numbers above are the fractions that appear after the part numbers for RS and RSR and are rebound/compression in decaNewtons at 0.5 Meter/Sec shaft speed.
