Angry BUMM STEER on Rennlist Classifieds

BUYER BEWARE!!!!

A guy named Chip Grimes from Pennsylvania answered a part needed request of mine on Rennlist. We spoke about an Airbag control unit I needed. It was still in his car so I sent him a ribbed socket (special tool) to remove it (sent Jan-03). Later I sent him the bridge plug to bypass the control so his fuel pump would still work. He was never a great communicator after he received the socket, but now he's dissapeared.

He said that he races a 1991 964 Turbo and is about to buy a GT3. If anyone knows this person please give him a swift kick in the a** for me.

Dear Shaker71,
You should report this to John D.
However you fail to identify yourself which makes the story seem a little one sided. You have named somebody in a poor light but have not identified yourself.
John will help you sort it out because he does not like this sort of thing.
Nobody can give this guy a kick in up the bum from an anonymous person.
Ciao,
Adrian

When you see him, tell him it's from Bill Steeley in Kirkland Washington!

I have had dealings with Shaker 71 (Bill). I found him to be forthright and honest. If Mr. Grimes is in a poor light, it's because he has positioned himself there. My 2 cents.

Bill –

I am on the phone with Chip now and he tells me the tools were mailed back to you the same way you mailed the stuff to him...US Postal service. He has been locked out of Rennlist (John D?) and has no way of replying to your accusations. He will gladly replace your tools if they were lost in the mail. Please contact him on the cell phone number you had (the number has been changed, but you will be redirected.)

I have known Chip for more than 5 years now and can tell you that he is an honest and forthright person.

Hi All...

Adrian, of course - is absolutely correct. While I do not get directly involved with the specifics of all the transaction on Rennlist (ummm - that might be somewhat daunting), I do take a certain pride in the Rennlist Members being full professionals. In this case - both Bill and Chip are Rennlist Members.

On that note, if you are a Rennlist Member, and buy/sell from the Classifieds - please feel free to contact me privately. I have been known to simply pick up the phone and get most issues resolved immediately. It appears to work very well. As well, just as an FYI - to get someone's attention, I will also turn off their ability to "post" - so I can tell them about a thread they need to look at, if they haven't had a chance to reply to a private e-mail from either Jen or myself. It's not that they have been "banned", but rather - it's one of the few ways we have to be sure that we "can" communicate with them - as was in this case.

At a personal level - Chip Grimes has been on Rennlist - and a Rennlist advocate - for almost as long as Rennlist has been around. In short, he is what Rennlist is all about - folks trying to assist other folks. In this case, I'm more then confident that this issue will be concluded professionally and expediently - as that is the way Chip has handled every situation that I have been made aware of throughout his years on Rennlist.

As well - over the past years - Chip and I have exchanged several private e-mails concerning the Rennlist site. On each occasion, he has offered terrific advice and it was tendered as a professional, who would make those suggestions. For that, Chip also has earned my personal respect. I wish there were more folks like him – as he truly cares about Rennlist Members, Porsche enthusiasts and this site.

In closing - if folks have an issue with a Rennlist Member, or if you are a Member, and concerned about a transaction that was instituted within the Forums, Classifieds or e-mail lists - simply drop me a quick note. I'm sure everyone will be happier.

Thanks for reading...

Gentleman,

Please do not pass judgement on a person you do not know. I've known Chip for the past few years and will vehemently vouch for his overall honesty and integrity.

I'm a relatively new Porsche owner and Chip has gone out of his way to provide me with any bit of asisstance or knowledge I have needed.

In fact, he put work he had planned on his car aside in order to help me drop my engine a few weekends ago.

FWIW, the car he is selling is top notch. I may be new to Porsche's but I'm not new to race car prep and I can tell you his turbo is in great condition and is meticulously prepared and maintained.

Let me start by saying that Chip Grimes is a person that I have the utmost respect for as a person and a friend. I can’t tell you how many people he has helped, including myself, since I’ve known him. I have trouble believing that this is anything more than a simple misunderstanding. I don’t know the person who started this post but I hope that he tried every means of communication with Chip before attacking his integrity in a public forum.

On the subject of Chip’s car, I would buy the car today if there was a way I could come up with the cash.
