I know Porsche has a list of approved oils, but do they have any other list of other fluids, like brake fluid, that they allow/don't recommend?

Also, I either seem to remember reading or hearing that DOT 4 or 5 synthetic brake fluids are specifically not recommended for use in 964s (it might have been mixing synthetics and non-synthetics...I don't remember).

Can anyone out there confirm any of this stuff?

The fluids I remember (and just double-checked) from the workshop manuals are

"Use only new DOT 4 brake fluid"

for power-steering "ATF-Dexron II D"

and the HVAC "stuff"
