Hello folks,
I searched thru the archives and found not too much data on adding keyless entry to my already power-lock equipped 1990 C4 targa..
I dont have any insurance requirements like those of you in Europe.. So just adding a remote so I dont have to use the key is what I am looking for.
Anyone have recommendations of a brand or type of keyless remote control unit?
Thanks!
-Mike

I had a Viper keyless entry installed during my first week of ownership. Once you get used to the ease of pushing a button, using the key is way too hard ![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Took the local shop about 40 minutes $110 installed. I chose not to have the lights flash or horn beep or anything else. I don't really care about those things and I didn't really want anyone messing too deeply with the wiring.

Did it myself using a $40 Code-Alarm. it is just a matter of tapping into 6 to 8 wires for the basic keyless entry. when it is engaged, the factory alarm is activated.
Broaden your search to include the 993 board, i think that i posted info there.

This is what I did on my 91 BUT I think that the 90 wiring might be different: (created these direction trying to help a fellow Rennlister)
How to Install Keyless Entry (DEI 712T) in a 1991 Porsche 964
1. Remove passenger side seat.
2. Locate factory alarm
3. Split open factory firing harness (should have the YELLOW connector). Be careful not to cut any wires
4. Locate the following wires in factory alarm harness:
Brown/Blue - LOCK (-)
Brown/Orange - UNLOCK (-)
Brown/White - Door pin trigger (-)
- Each one of those wires should be triggered by a - (negative/ground) input.
Meaning, if a (-) input is given to one of those wires they will activate.
This can be tested by using a wire tester. Connect tester to a ground
(you should see a bunch of brown wires bolted to one of the grounding
points - you can use this) on the other side tap wire. This "should" lock,
unlock, or activate the dome light depending on which wire you tap.
5. After locating the correct wires tap (place inline) the related output wires of the
DEI Valet (712T)
- I believe there are input wires on the alarm for the proper signal to give. These will need to go to GROUND.
6. Need to connect 12v constant, ground, and 12v switched.
- I used the 12v constant going to the factory amp. Red wire...PLEASE use a cable tester/multimeter to verify this.
- Ground used the same grounding point as the others.
- 12v switched (on when accessory is on as well as crank) used the same source as the 12v switch on stereo. (again use multimeter)

Excellent write-up on the DEI 712T install, thank you. This sounds like a great, quick project for this weekend.
Two questions, please.
1. Does the factory alarm continue to work as always? I suspect so, but just wanted to verify.
2. Does the key continue to work as always, e.g., lock/unlock, alarm enable/disable (even with a dead battery)?
Thank you in advance.

2. Yes the key continues to work as usual.
You are just taping into the wires NOT cutting off from the factory alarm system. The only thing a typical keyless entry system (or aftermarket alarm) does provides the proper signal (typically neg. - but not always) to activate the lock or unlock signal given to the electric locks in cars. Fortunately for us 964 owners those signals also activate/deactivate our factory alarms.

I have a word doc that contains the instructions and pictures on how to do this. I created this when I installed my RKE. I can't seem to make an attachment here so if you send your email address I will send you the document. Good Luck

Thanks for all of the replies! I purchased a DEI-712T from Circuit City online for $59.99, for in-store pick-up. Their in-store, off the shelf price, was $109.99.
There was no wiring reference information contained in the box, but I found this .pdf here:
http://www.directechs.com/guides/man...712T_01-05.pdf
I have just a few questions, and ask for your continued patience.
Page 4 of the .pdf lists the wire functions, and numbers 1, 11, and 15 are self-explanatory, and are easily related back to puma1824's, September 8th post. My confusion lies in the dome light, lock, and un-lock circuits.
Is the 712T wired inline with these wires on the 964?
Brown/Blue - LOCK (-)
Brown/Orange - UNLOCK (-)
Brown/White - Door pin trigger (-)
For example, is the Brown/Blue - LOCK (-) snipped, and then wired to the 712T wire 7 (input), and then out via the 712T wire 6 (output) back into the Brown/Blue - LOCK (-) to the 964 alarm module?
Essentially, is the 712T placed between the 964 alarm's current inputs, or are there three simple (-) outputs of the 712T that are spliced into the alarms inputs.
Thank you in advance.

After continuing to study the .pdf instructions, it appears that it may be as simple as the following:
Dome- Splice the #4 wire of the 712T to the 964's Brown/White - Door pin trigger (-) wire, AND connect the #3 wire of the 712T to ground.
Lock- Splice the #5 wire of the 712T to the 964's Brown/Blue - LOCK (-) wire.
Un-Lock- Splice the #8 wire of the 712T to the 964's Brown/Orange - UNLOCK (-) wire.
And the 12 Volt Constant, 12 Volt Switched, and ground wires.
Added from the .pdf for reference:
H1/3 BLACK/WHITE-1 Domelight Supervision Input
This wire determines what the output polarity of H1/4 will be. If the door pin circuit is negative,
connect to chassis ground. If the door circuit is positive, connect to a fused 12V source.
H1/4 BLACK/WHITE Domelight Supervision Output
Connect this wire directly to the domelight circuit in the vehicle. The on-board relay will drive
circuits up to 30 amperes. The polarity of this output is determined by the connection of the input
wire H1/3 in the Relay Harness.
NOTE: If the input wire H1/3 is not connected, there will be no output on this wire.
H1/5 GREEN/BLACK Lock #30 Common (Output)
The system has door lock relays on-board, and can directly interface with most electric power door
lock systems drawing 30 amps or less. It can also drive aftermarket actuators directly. (Some vehicles
require that an aftermarket actuator be added to the driver’s door to allow system control, see Type
D wiring section in Tech Tip Document 1041).
H1/8 BLUE/BLACK Unlock #30 Common (Output)
See H1/5.
Can anyone please confirm? ... The seat's out and the multimeter is fired up!
Thanks in advance.
