Exclamation C4 understeer

Volks,

My 1990 C4 is all stock suspention and has the normal C4 understeer symptoms.

To the best of your knowledge, would an RS rear swaybar and front strut brace, perhaps later followed with a Bilstein/Eibach shock/spring kit help to neutralize the understeer an achieve better overall handling?

Many people suggest a rear 21mm swaybar and front strut brace for the C4. Any feedback is appreciated.

THKS

Dear Johannes,
To be quite honest and seeing I am behind the 21mm sway bar issue which I learned from my peers in the C4 world who did this work 10 years ago, the RS adjustable (18mm) rear sway bar is not so effective on the C4. You do need to stiffen up the rear end with brute strength. Adjustables are for the racers. It allows them to tweak. The RS adjustable is designed for a RWD RS which is built to a much stiffer standard anyway. The chassis and body are welded up and re-inforced. The standard C4 does not have these features. Stiffening up the front also makes huge difference.
The C4 is an animal all on its own. You can only compare a C4 to another C4. You still have to tweak things to get them right. Everytime you change something you need to tweak.
The fact is though the 21mm rear sway bar for the C4 was proven to work in 1990 when it was tested and I am 100% sure it works for me. Personally I woul dnot mess around for road use with a racing type system. However as I always say, it is your money and your decision but proven and tested installations and methods are usually the least expensive and painless way of doing things to a 911.
Ciao,
Adrian
