John,

Very nice.

I like the 5 spoke wheels, and the bottom right photos on your website show a great comparison to the original 7 spoke version. What wheels are your new ones, and do you know if they would also properly fit on an '89 C4?

Thanks,
Tom

Loveley! Made me realise that I've never owned a red car, despite thinking that both of my current cars (E30 M3 and 964)look great in red...mental note to buy red car next time...although if iot's a 993, it may have to be silver...bug*er!

They are a bit like hens' teeth, but you can get Porsche Carrera Cup '1s' which are the same but aluminium alloy and half an inch less wide fairly readily.

Either would fit your car (AFAIK), but you'd need spacers to take 'mine' on the rear (as do I).

Of course, you can also get replica Cup 1s.

John, beautiful pics. You have a knack for picking superb background to highlight a great looking car. Now you have to duplicate them all with the clear lenses.

John, great pics! Great car! Great color! It almost looks as good as my red RS <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

<a href="http://hobbystage.net/porsche/media.cgi?site=selestam&folder=*&group=1&page=*&id=1053542490-006005" target="_blank">http://hobbystage.net/porsche/media.cgi?site=selestam&folder=*&group=1&page=*&id=1053542490-006005</a>

I did notice that your wheels looked wide! I did not know you had genuine Carerra Cup wheels on it. Great buy! But are the repainted? The look new! My magnesium wheels (17" and 7,5"/9" RS size) are now starting to look like they need a repaint. I have heard that magnesium wheels are special to repaint. Do you have any info on this?

Hi, Patrik.

Paula just read your post and said 'Thereby hangs a tale'...

I recently got the wheels fully refurbished.
They had got a bit chipped over the years and one was not quite straight, from 'new'.

Magnesium wheels need to be painted (so I am told) with a cyanide-based primer. This, together with the fact that one needed straightening (oh, and one had a chunk missing from the rim following a fast drive down a narrow Scottish road - guess how much that 'bang' hurt me! ) meant they had to go to a company in Germany to be done.

PWS (Performance Wheel Supplies) arranged it all for me at a reasonable price and I had it all done whilst having some major work done on the car, so I didn't have the problem of having no wheels!

The finish isn't q-u-i-t-e the same colour as the original (a bit too grey), but is a pretty close match and the finish seems to be pretty tough.

P.S. What a great-looking car you have! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Talking

John and Paula!

I´m not quite sure what 'Thereby hangs a tale' means as I´m from Sweden. Is it good?

"a bit chipped over the years" is like I would describe my wheels also. I am thinking of getting them painted next winter as the car is stored during the winter month. At the same time I will probably get my set of 964 Turbo wheels (17" and 7"/9" Turbo size) painted. My plan is to have one set with road tires and one with R-compound tires for track days.

Thanks for the info on the cyanide-based primer. Things like this is good to know when shopping around for a trusted company.

Paula, cool that you are also on this forum. My wife Sofie has never been here but she drives the RS both on the road and on trackdays with Porsche Club Sweden. She loves the Rennlist forum because then I do not "torture" her with Porsche talk (as much...) <img border="0" alt="[icon501]" title="" src="graemlins/icon501.gif" />

Paula likes to read as much of Rennlist as she can. It helps her to understand that utter devotion to a car is, in fact, perfectly normal and something to be encouraged!

She has MS which means she can't drive anymore, 'though she felt rather overawed on the few occasions she did drive the 964, anyway. She has always prefered to be driven.

She has been known to sigh slightly when car-related expenditure looms yet again, but that's about it. Generally, she is very tolerant of the 964 automatically receiving whatever time/money is 'required'. She also likes nothing better than being a passenger whilst travelling sideways through the odd sniff of tyre smoke! Which is handy...

JB,
Ok I get it <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

I will let Sofie run her progress/intrest in Porsches and everything around it like Rennlist. But I will encourage it.

It´s great that Paula can still enjoy Porsches and be with you at the same time

I did also notice the blue car but did not want to mention it as JB probably did not even see it pass him <img border="0" alt="[icon107]" title="" src="graemlins/icon107.gif" />
