Talking Sparco Evo2s, RS door panels & MSDS kit is fitted!!!

Folks,

Just completed the installation of 2 Sparco Evo2 seats, the RS door panels and the MSDS airfilter kit and I must say that I am extremely happy with the result. All the parts were straight "bolt on" and no trouble what so ever!

The Sparco Evo2s are equally as good as the original RS seats (had them in my 968CS) for a fraction of the price. The RS door panels are in my opinion sooo coool and the MSDS breaths as if a flaming dragon was giving chase. No significant performace increase though from the MSDS kit, based on the butt dyno!

Here are a few pics!

Great mods! The Evo's look right at home in your car. How's the fit? I'm 6' and weigh around 185lbs. I've always wondered how snug the seats would be.

Any plans for a roll-bar and/or racing harnesses?

I've got the same intake - I love it. A word of caution though..... Should you get the urge to clean the "snorkle" filter one day, don't over-oil it! The intake will get coated with the excess oil and screw with your throttle response.
(Don't ask me why I offer this piece of unsolicited advice!)

Hey Terry!

Thanks for the positive feedback and words of advise. As for the fit of the Evos, I reckon that for a 100% track car I would have gone for the standard Evo and not the roomier Evo2. I am about your size and the seats are snug but not tight. Excellent for a dual purpose car in my opinion! They are mounted on universal Sparco sliders and side mounts that align perfect with the original monting points.

I have a Speedware Motorsports harness bar lying around but the fit was not 100% and need some bending of the mounting area and I have put this on hod untill further. There is also a Sabelt harness lying around so the goodies are there!

Great job!

I'm about to go look at some Sparco seats myself. How's the comfort for around town?

Niiiiiiice!

I loved the Evos when I had them in my 964, I had an Evo on the passenger side, the Evo II on the Drivers...AFTER realizing that the latter arrangement would afford more daily commute comfort.

Not to mention that my (petite) girlfriend seemed to enjoy how snug the smaller sized Evo felt as it fit her like a glove...no further comment here.

Well, the Evos are a memory in the past for now...actually sold them to help finance my latest undertaking...which is taking forever.

I just keep saying to myself, "It will be better than before"...and just keep smiling on that thought.

I have recently traded some parts for a Recaro SRD which should be great for commuting and track use...I will move it over in favor of an Evo II or possibly a Recaro Pole Position once my wallet gets back on it's feet.

I figure the Recaro Pole Position will look great positioned alongside of the SRD, being that both will be black, have the white embroidery "RECARO" script on the headrest area and both will have the wide support "wings"...I'd be willing to wager that most people wouldn't notice the difference in seats!??

The added benefit to that would be that I have a few friends that couldn't fit in the Evo, so I'm sure they will welcome the addition of an SRD.

...besides, did you 6' and over Rennlisters know that a Pole Position can mount MUCH lower than an Evo II?? I drove a RUF RCT last October with a pair of them installed, they were even on sliders and still quite a bit lower than my Evo install.

Jeff,

I managed to get the seats mounted in the lower hole in the back and the 2nd from the bottom in the front of the sidemounts and while the sidemounts are on sliders I still got about 1-1.5 inch headroom clearance. By the way, this car is doing major damage to my bank A/C as well. All the maintainance and service plus all the parts by now. Fitted is:

Sparco Evo2 seats
17" Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tyres
Bilstein HD shocks
Eibach springs
FVD strutbrace
FVD stainless steel brakehoses
FVD Cup exhaust + 4" tailpipe
FVD shortshifter
FVD clear front and side turnsignals
RS brake ducts
RS door panels
MSDS cone filter and airflow meter adapter
21mm rear swaybar
EBC red kevlar pads
X-drilled discs
Cup Mirrors
Momo Corse steering wheel

Speedware Motorsport harnessbar & Sabelt harness is still pending but lying around waiting to be installed.

Long list that gets longer by the day! : )

Ciao 4 now,

Johannes E.

FF,

The RS door panels are from BetterBodies (talk to Robert Hansen) in San Diego, these door panels have travelled the world by now. First fron San Diego to my parents place in San Francisco, from San Francisco to our place in Sweden during X-mas and from Sweden to here in United Arab Emirates. What kind of trouble wouldnt you go through just for the sake of car parts!

Thanks for sharing, Johannes! I know when I finish a project, the last thing I want to do is take pictures and then post them; I'm just glad it's over with! So it's much appreciated.

Hey Jeff-
Are the PCA rules about having to have the same seats in front for instruction granular to the point where having an Evo on one side and an Evo II would be a problem?

Jon, basically, most people's interpretation of that rule is, "if you have a racing type seat on the Driver's side, you must have one on the passenger side"...same goes with harnesses/restraints.

The rule states "equal restraints".

So, that's my take on it anyway.

NO, there would not be a difference in having an EVO on one side and an EVO II on the other, the ONLY difference is that one is 1.5inches wider (EVO II) than the other, otherwise the seats look EXACTLY the same with the same fabric and design.

...so I'm quite positive "they" would have nothing to say in regards to that.

NOW, with my car...I will have a comfortable Recaro SRD with a movable back on the Passenger side and a full race bucket (Pole Position) on the Driver's side...they are both racing-style seats, with high bolsters, hole for sub-strap and accomodations for shoulder harnesses.

I would think most people wouldn't notice a difference, and if they did...and had issue with it, well, let's just say they could ride with someone else!

Honestly, I think my setup as well as other "mixed" setups are within the rules. The high-bolster, sub-strap and shoulder harness accomodations issue would pretty much categorize two different manufacturer's, or model of seat as within the limits of "equal restraints".

Hopefully that answers your question??

For us 'larger' guys, are there any alternatives to the Evo2 (I'm 6'4, 300lbs, 38" waist and kinda wide, definitely too wide for normal sports seats to be comfortable)? I'm sorta vaguely considering moving to some 'proper' seats. How do they compare with the stock (non-sports) seats comfort-wise, are they OK for everyday use, including longer drives, or will my @rse go numb (not to put too fine a point on it )?

Edit: and I'm also interested in the MSDS kit - does it make any difference to performance? How much does the kit cost, and how hard is it to install? I'd like to open up the right-hand side of my engine compartment like I did the left-hand side when I installed the Cup heater tube (one of Thom Fitzpatrick's CF replicas, anyway, which looks *gorgeous* - although I still need to track down a couple of resistors and a t-shaped piece of tubing).

Oh, and with the RS door panels, do your windows become manual-crank, or can you keep 'em as electrical (I like my creature comforts ).

[Second edit, if I'd bothered to look at your pictures properly I would have known the answer to this.]

I'm considering this upgrade cos at the moment it's a little hard for me to open the door, I have to kinda shuffle over to the right over a bit to get the handle to pull fully (although this is pretty much automatic now), and my door storage bin things aren't in great nick. Oh, and because they look really cool, too. When I was in London recently, there's a 964 RS near where I was staying (on Queen's Gate Terrace, if anyone knows the area) - every time I walked into college, I'd stop to ogle, and the interior looked really good, functional yet businesslike. Beautiful car.

Eion,

I reckon the Evo2 is as big as racing seats get, you need to try out the seat before purchase anyway!

The MSDS kit is USD 105 and installs in 15 minutes, performance wise no gain but sound is awesome!

Yupp, the RS door panels are as functional as you really need and look COOL!

Ciao,

Johannes E.
