Question Engine/trunk lid won't stay up

After five months, about thirty cars driven, and two failed PPIs, I've finally purchased a beautiful '93 black 964 coupe! I'm sure I will have many questions, but here is the first: both the engine and trunk lids will not stay up. How do I repair this?

Thanks, and I look forward to participating in this forum.

Hi, Jon,

First of all, congratulations on your car! When are the pics coming? ;-)

Anyway, you can buy hood shocks that should keep the front and rear lids from hitting you in the head. Most Porsche parts places sell them.

Performance Products (www.performanceproducts.com) sells the Weltmeister Deck Lid Shocks and gives them a lifetime warranty.

Good luck, and congratulations!

The front hood shocks look like they will be a bear to rplace, but they are quite easy. Long screw driver pops the old one off, and then with a bit of fiddling, you can pop the new ones on. The rear deck can be a bitch, because you have to take the air filter housing off, and it never fails that the rear clip will fall of, and you will be forced to cuss or throw something.
