Drilled it, now wish I hadn't!! - ALMOST CURED
OK, so I bought that airbox cover off Ebay, Drilled it just like John Miles says. Got in it today for a first Burn, shoulda seen the smile on my face at 4000 revs and a cherry bomb noise! However, the car has suddenly gone jerky - coincidence or do I have to DME reset?
Also the wife called me a chav because of the noise!
May have to revert to old box and ebay the drilled one!
Advice welcome on jerking problem!

I'd definitely try a DME reset.

what are the symptoms of a DME relay going bad? Is it a "it works or not" type thing, or does it sporatically cut out the motor giving a jerkyness like brooke describes (or a different kind of sputter/jerkey action)?

I have drilled a lot of air boxes in my day and never had trouble, but I do remember reading on some sites that a rough idle and stumbling can result. I have no idea how. I have run mine with no lid, filter or anything at a auto cross and did not have issues.

On both my 964's I've modded the Air Box cover - on the 1st, I drilled it like John Miles & didn't like the resonance it caused. On the second, like you I bought a spare cover & cut a large square hole in it, just like the cup/fabspeed cover & it sounds great! No resonance! Never had any idle/hesitation side effects from the engine.

I'll pop the old one back on tonight and reset the DME, then report back.
A chav is a word over here which describes your typical hoodlum in a cheap car with a large exhaust pipe, under car neons and a burberry cap.

Chavs don't drive Porsches. They prefer 'souped up' shopping trolleys ( e.g. Citroen Saxo, Renault Clio, Vauxhall Corsa)
