I'm hoping that my clutch is ok as it was done in 2002, but like you say there could well be plenty of hidden costs. I just hope there arent too many!

hi,

you have me worried !!!

what is the normal level that the oil pressure gauge should be reading on a fully warmed engine......mine reads around the 1 bar level at idle.... 5 bar under full acceleration.....fully warmed?

When oil is cold at start up ambient temp +14 degrees.
800rpm................2 to 3 Bar Indicated
2000rpm +............4 to 5 Bar Indicated

When oil is hot (thermostat fully open running 0-40 Mobil 1)
800rpm.............1.5 to 1.7 Bar Indicated
2000rpm +..........4 to 4.5 Bar Indicated

Above 1500rpm oil pressure never reads below 3.5 Bar
I hope this helps by way of comparrison. (74000 miles original build C2 run on Mobil 1 all its life never missed a service).
I know this engine seemed strong in terms of bhp and oil px when compared to many of the 26 cars I saw before I bought this one. What do other members cars indicate?

Steve - don't worry too much. There was a thread on this quite a while ago, and pressures do seem to vary quite a bit at idle between cars. Mine is about 1.2 on a warm engine - and it's been like that for the 4 years since I've owned the car (and it had a top end rebuild just before I bought it).

Hi,

Thanks for the info

Planning an oil and filter change before the winter....question is what grade of oil to use.....this will be the first change since i got the car......i live in Scotland so the temps can get pretty cold here during the winter months......any ideas?
10w40?
15w40?

Fully synth or semi ?
Thinking of Magnatec 10w40

I've been using magnatec 10w40 for years steve, its fine. and your pressures sound perfectly ok.
