Default Average cost of engine reseal?

I was just wondering what the average cost of complete engine reseal. Using the "search" I've found $2600 and can't find any other numbers. It just would be nice to know if I ever ask my mechanic to know if it's way off base or reasonable.

thanks,
Puma

Cool

Engine Reseal

Not just the cost of the reseal... but what else you also do while the engine is out...

First thing should be to clean the engine and check for leaks... most common sources are simple things to fix. Do this before dropping the engine and spending big bucks...

The PO's reciept for the top end rebuild on mine was around $5k including a new clutch and flywheel. Usual little items - valve guides and oil lines, included.

I second Wachuko's comments. With all the oil tubes, etc the oil can be making a real mess with "relatively" minor causes. My rubber lines were really brittle and leaking like mad. New valve covers are the next culprit for leaks when I do my next valve adjustment.
