Post relay part #

Would anyone have a part # for the DME relay for a 1991 C2. I have also heard that the DME relay for the 993 is an improved version. Any comments on this? Thanks, Roy

Good morning Roy,

993.615.227.00, for both the 964 and 993. If the DME relay in your car starts with 944, you have the original part. The 993.xx version is supposed to be improved as compared to the 944.xx part. That said, the 944.xx relay in my car never failed in 10 years. It now resides in my glove box as an emergency back-up to the 993.xx relay I installed last year.

The relay is only around (probably less than) $20, and you should keep a spare in the car, if you don't already.

Hi Randall,
could you please be so kind to tell me why it's an good idea to have a spare of the DME relay?
What happens if this relay fails?
And where is this relay located?
Greetz.

Hi,
The relay is located in the fuse box in the luggage compartment. The lid of the fuse box tells you which one it is.

A spare is a good idea because - like all relays - they can fail. And if it does, the car won't run. It's basically the relay for the DME (i.e. computer brain) and fuel pump, so without it the DME and fuel pump won't do much.

Randall, Thanks for the quick reply. I seem to have a little roughness upon cold start and thought this might be a good place to start. As you said the old one will make a good spare to carry. Dealer has a new parts man who couldn't find the part number, so the list members come through again. Roy
