Default chain tensioners

I have a slapping noise sometimes on startup. Its just a guess, but I think its a chain and with a bit of research the chain tensioners could be the culprit. I've looked at a couple of old threads and there was one reply that said it should be an easy job. Would anyone offer any advice on this. A roughed out list of what to do when perhaps? I don't have a set of repair manuals so unfortunately I'm bugging you kind folk. Im very handy witha wrench but I like to know what i am getting into beforehand.

I'm looking at Bruce Anderson's Porsche 911 Performance handbook and it has a nice picture of the area on page 77. It doesnt look too bad. Could it simply be an unbolt the old one and bolt the new one up process?

Any help will be appreciated.

All you need is an 13mm socket wrench to undo the two nuts but you shouldn't reuse the gasket (964-105-177-03).

You should PM one of us with your snail mail address...

Just remember to drain the oil beforehand. I had some sludge (oil changes every 5k miles) when I cleaned the oil passages around my hydraulic chain tensioners but I'm not so sure that was responsible for any startup noise (a loose chain is a loose chain). This is literally a 5 minute operation so it might be worth checking for the sake of checking?

PS. Don't forget to prime the tensioner in oil before installing it.
