The guy sounded completely baffled about the thing melting down and said this never happens. They are sending me a new coil and replacement wires. He said that if I send the wires back, they will credit me for a refund based on a warranty claim.

So...do I have some other problem that I need to worry about? Up until that moment, the car was running fine...well within normal operating parameters. There was no excess heat or anything else I can think of. Is this just a fluke that the coil melted down or could there be any root cause to look for?
