After how many miles should one change the oil on a 964. I've had my 90 C2 for six months and according to the receipt from the last service (also six months ago) it's due for another oil change after 2000 miles. Is this correct? The oil used has been Mobil 1, if that makes any difference.

Dear Tony,
Depends on the oil used. Not all Mobil One products are fully synthetic oils by the way.
Fully synthetic oils (if all season approved) can run for 12500 of your miles 20000klms between oil changes.
Dino oil I believe most are around 3000 miles.
In the end however the interval is purely up yourself and what you are comfortable with. Same as the type of oil you use. Some people get really passionate on this relatively simple but very touchy subject.
Use the oil that you wish to and choose the interval best suited to the oil and your won requirements.
For the record, I use 5W 30 Fully Synthetic Oils, normally Mobil One but I have also used Castrol GTX and Valvoline 5W 30 in my Porsches and in the Audi (30,000klms interval) I change the oil every 20,000klms. My 911C4 is heading for its seventh oil change since August 1989 and touch wood, no problems with the engine oil system yet. My 944 has just had its ninth recorded oil change since July 1985. It is also recommended that you change the oil every two years regardless of the mileage.

I usually change (Mobil 1, 15-50 German filter) in the fall, the time when usage drops off. Don't care too much about the miles.

i change mine every fall also, as i have to store my car for the winter. it is not good to store the car with dirty oil in it.
