cutting out
Hi All,
Had a super weekend's driving. However this morning I had issues. The car felt like it was cutting out. It almost died everytime I got to traffic lights. I felt like it was cutting out even while moving at 3000 RMP - Not good! It I suppose as it could damage the engine.
I guess it could be leads, fuel filter. Any other ideas? Remember I've had two new coils and leads.
Oh No Xmas lights
Cheers
Sunil

Sunil... I had similar issues. Here's a few other things to check out...
1. Clean your ISV
2. Ensure your gas cap seal is working correctly. (Just get a new one if you have any doubt.)
3. Distributor caps & rotors. (If you didn't replace them with your coils.)
A search will turn up more possible solutions.
Good Luck!

BUT: when it is all running well and you're winding your way down a nice twisty road, it is all worthwhile!!

Over the past two years I have encountered similar problems. The first time it just died and it was caused by the primary coil. The second time, about 6 months later, it started to cut out and stumble and it was caused by the secondary coil. The third time about a year ago it started cutting out pretty badly and it was the DME. Most recently it began to do the same type of cutting out and I could have sworn it was an electrical problem. My mechanic recommended I change the fuel filter, and voila, it runs like new. I also changed the O2 sensor after the fuel filter was changed just for good luck (and I don't know if it has ever been changed). Incidently, I do all my own work whenever possible.
So If I were you and not in the mood to take it to a garage, try changing the fuel filter. It is a bit tricky to get to and requires a couple of 18 mm open ends and one 15 mm open end (I believe). You must remove the air filter first. The nuts on my fuel filter were on quite snug (read hard as hell to loosen). But then, I'm 65 and getting weak, according to my sons.
The filter cost me about $19 plus shipping, here in California. When you loosen the nuts a copious amount of gas flows out. Have a couple of very absorbant rags hands.

Hi All,
Just got off the phone to Chris at JZMachteck. He recons it's the Air Mass sensor connectors. Is this something I could do myself? Is there a website to show how to do it? Also I might as well sort the fuel pump out, again is there a site?
Cheers

I still run a little rougher than I'd like at idle, and had some cutting out when the engine is colder- down right shut down on me a few times. I have a new fuel filter, just haven't put it on yet. I'll be following the post.
