Post Removing the knee protection

Hi all !
To replace my airbag (and the cover on the passangers side) I need to remove the knee protection strip under the dash. I mean the big soft thing which also holds the ashtray. Porsche part number is 964 552 073 00 .
My question is: HOW ??!!
I found the bolds on the sides behind a little cover, and also the 2 bolts behind the ashtray. I do get some movement in the kneeprotection strip, but not enough. Do I have to remove the centre console also ? And if I do: HOW ?!
A little rush is needed, I have to bring the car for import examination tomorrow....

TIA !

Oscar;

You need to remove your radio and climate control unit to get to 2 more additional nut. They are 10mm. The lower dash or knee protector has studs that pass through. Good luck

But...how do I remove the airco-unit ?
Violence ?
Or a special tool ?

Oscar;

You have to look at the unit and find the 4 holes, 2 on each side. Insert tools into holes. This can either be drill bits or nails or what ever you have. What you are trying to do is to unlock the taps that are keeping the unit in the mounting sleeve. If you are working on the right set of holes, insert the tools that you use and put pressure in a left to right method. You will be able to feel the tension. The left side is right to left. I have never been able to get the unit out by pulling both sides. However, if you can get one side out 1/8" then work the other side.

I would suggest that you undo the cable ties that are under your dash, to give you some slack in two wiring harnesses that connect to the unit. You might be able to work around the harness and not have to disconnect them from the unit....

Hope this helps

I found this thread which helped me. I used steel pop rivets that had barbed edges that helped to grab the unit as I pulled.

I had tried to remove mine a while back and never figured it out. Good to know I was on the right track...
