Is the frame around the air conditioning condenser steel? Question answered - it is steel.

The steel frame weighed approximately 1.62 kg. The aluminum version weighs approximately .44 kg. Savings of approximately 2.6 lbs.

Okay, you can't post an update on humpty-Dumpty with no pictures.

Less than 1100 kg.
I think that (once it's fixed) Christer should take his car to the States. Then he and Robert can have a mini race and we can finally answer the eternal question once and for all : Which is best, more power or less weight?

Less weight and more power. My idea of a modern 911R -- 2200 lbs., 425 normally aspirated horsepower, full interior, air conditioning, airbags, stereo, etc.

Less weight is always better in my opinion because the car will do everything else much better, like stop and change direction.

Robert, do you think you'll be able to get 425hp out of your 964 or were you just being philosophical about the ideal modern 911r?

Ahh, yes, I do very much like the new water cooled engines.

Actually Geoffrey - it looks a bit like you may have taken weight loss to extremes a bit yourself - and that perhaps ANY engine would be a step forward!

By the way Meine Herrn, when I say 425 HP, I mean fully "streetable" and with the full life span and minimum maintenance of a street engine.

Robert, yes, I think a water cooled engine can be fully streetable at 425hp, however, an air cooled engine...is a tough call which is what prompted my question.

I would imagine that my car and Robert's car will be very similar in overall weight, especially if I can hold to my 2000lbs goal. However, it is not streetable in any respect and will require ear plugs for sound deadning

Also, my car has leather interior, air conditioning, heat, carpets, stereo, cellular phone with cradle, etc., etc., i.e., its a street car.

Hey, I do have a comfy seat though. And when it is 60 outside, it should be just about perfect inside the car.
