I just bought a 90 C2 in (almost) perfect shape. The seat belt and airbag warning light stay on. The dealer from where I bought it says that he researched the TSB's and found that the likely cause is the circuit board behind the clock. He has a new one on order. My questions:
1. anyone have a similar problem?
2. do you know if the airbags are active, in case of an accident?
This board is great, hope to have a long life with my new toy.

>1. anyone have a similar problem?
Many people, myself included. Very good chance the new clock will fix your problem.
>2. do you know if the airbags are active, in case of an accident?
As far as I know, your airbags are still active with the lights on.

My airbag and seatbelt light are also on.
When they pulled your fault codes (using a Bosch Hammer, as they surely must have), what were the codes?
On mine, the fault codes indicate that in the airbag electrical circuit I have an intermittent short circuit somewhere: something that should have a positive voltage was temporarily shorted to ground, and/or something that should be at ground (0 volts) was shorted to positive voltage source. Of course the fault was not present when the codes were pulled. So in my case the airbags should still work.
Again, what were the fault codes they pulled on your car? Your repair receipt might include a printout.
But aside from those lights... Wheeeeee, aren't these cars fun!
PS How does the C2 compare with the CLK?

I have the same problem in my 91 C2. Stoler Porsche told me that the bags work and the fault is the result of a minor short somewhere in the car. Was advised that the cost of repair nor comensurate with the value of the car.
Waiting to hear other results.

Another data point:
I bought my 1990 C2 with the airbag/seltbelt lights on two years ago. My dealer mechanic reset the lights with the hammer and they have not reappeared. He did not charge me for this.

Hi LouZ,
Just changed the clock, about 175,00 euros. All the lights work fine now. I hope it helps.

To add to my original post, and FWIW. I had my airbag warning light reset twice over some 6 months by an independent shop, back in '98/'99. Both times the light came back on after a month of so. Hoehn Porsche (dealer) diagnosed the problem as the clock, and it hasn't come back on since replaced.

Thanks for all of the feedback. The dealer (Foreign Car Specialist) that I purchased from has the replacement clock on order and will install it at no cost to me.
Dave R.---comparing the Porsche to the CLK is like Sauerbraten and Weinersnitzel (sp). The CLK has power and a smooth ride, the Porsche is a beast!
