Removal of engine sound insulation
Last week, while I was lying under my car admiring my engine's underside, I considered that the plastic and foam insulation surrounding the cam covers and chain housings is no longer necessary without the belly pan. It's only apparent function is to attach the belly pan, which I long ago permanently removed, to provide sound muffling and perhaps shield the lower plug wires from exhaust heat. Anyway, I figured the engine has to run cooler without this "blanket" of insulation, so removed it. I was wondering if anybody else has done this and if there have been problems with cooking of the lower spark plug wires by exhaust system heat over time? Temperatures seem reasonable to my "finger touch" thermometer test.
