Default 964 Rear Brake Upgrade...

Just finished replacing my rear brakes. I changed out the rear calipers with 944 turbo units. When using the 944 units you have to swap the bleeders and cross over tubes to make them work. Also added a 55 bar pressure regulator. Quite easy and inexpensive conversion. New pads and rotors while I was at it. The new 4 pot units use the same pads as the front which are so much bigger.

More pictures of the suspension upgrade to come...

Are they cheaper then getting 92 on rears from a 964? I have been thinking of doing the same thing mainly because of the cost of rear pads on the 2 pots. A couple of times and you could have bought new calipers with the difference.

I searched for the longest time for 964 units and they were always around 400 bucks used and I only have seen a couple. I paid $200 on ebay and there is almost always sets on there. The only thing different is the Porsche Logo is machined on the face on the 944-968 units. I might swap out the fronts some day to have the machined logo 944 version, no one notices on mine though.

The pistons are the same size. The 944's are trailing mount vs the leading mount of the 964. All you have to do is reveste the bleeders and the X over line. Easy to do. Took longer to clean all the grime off the car than the actual parts instalation.

Default Rear brakes

Hi,
Great work and I have a few questions for you.
1) What brand of drilled rotor did you buy ?
2) What did you use to clean your suspension, its looks like new ?
Thanks, Mark

1) Zimmerman Rotors got them on ebay.

2) 2 Gallons of Simple green and kitchen brushes, I did use some Easy Off oven cleaner on some of the tough burnt on brake dust. I did the whole undercarrage.

Thumbs up Could eat off the floor!

I must commend you on what must have been a tough job! That undercarriage looks freakin new, dude! You have inspired me to make an upcoming Sunday Easy Off Spray Day! Congrats on the drilled rotors and brake upgrade, too!

Pete - Can you feel the differences? Did you have to rebuild the calipers? Mine are still sitting on the shelves awaiting a rebuild.

Pete-do you have to change the rotor size?

Your undercarriage looks too clean to drive. I can't seem to see the necessary oil leaks. You must be out of oil.

Thanks for the compliments, made laying on my back with gunk in the face soaked in Simple Green all worth it. I still need to do the engine, That cosmoline baked on the block does not come off very easily.

Rear rotors stay stock.

I did not rebuild the calipers and figured I would try them out for a while to see if they need rebuilding. Haven't driven the car much yet due to the new suspension install. It needs to go into the shop for alignment first. I did run it around the block and it rides great and the brakes need to be set (broken in) before I can decide if they are better. The braided lines make for a stiffer pedal I did notice. The pads and calipers sure look more substantial!

Okay, now I think you're just trying to compete with Robert Linton/Humpty Dumpty.

Looks great....did you replace any brake lines, bolts/ nuts etc?.....even after a good clean I don't think mine would come out like that!

Pete - it looks like this thread has been truly hijacked by the cleanliness of your undercarriage...

Can you clarify which Simple Green product you used...I've looked at their website (www.simplegreen.com) and it looks like there's several to choose from.
