Wink Counting Lefty's chickens

Well peeps,

I know I was ranting about 964 pricing a while back and you guys all chimed in. Most were really defensive on my market sense but I think I have my car for the price I want. This market is soft and I'm getting IN! I don't want to put a spell on it as it is having the PPI soon. But...

'94 RS America (Only 74 or so ever made in 94 with rear seats - need 'em for the kids)
Single owner, less than 40k miles. No accidents, or paintwork and serviced at one TOP garage all its merry life.

Two...no three words: Low, Low 30s

going, going .....gone to Lefty.

Cheers to all and I'm looking forward to my new family in the 964 lounge. The M3 is retired! It was much too fast for me anyway. But it has my fullest respect and Joey's too

Yes, that's one helluva' sedan! Do they come in an estate version?

As for your market sense, I'd suggest your deal confirms two things:

1. It is not possible (today) to buy a low-mileage, 5-spd, C2 coupe in the mid-20's, and

2. The RSA market moves independently of the C2's.

While it's not exactly apples and oranges, the stripped-out, non-leather, manually-steered RS version, IMHO, appeals to a smaller segment of the market. So even though you were able to secure a fantastic bargain on an excellent example, the C2 sell prices would not necessarily follow suit.

Given the shortage of supply and the relatively strong demand for this variant, I believe a C2 with similar miles/history will continue to be offered and sold in the low-30's. Is this right? Is this a poor bargain? I think it depends on the buyer.
Congrats on a successful quest! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Lefty:

Congradulations on your purchase! That sounds like a nice car and a good deal!

I always have thought that '93 and '94 964's are some of the most bulletproof 911's built. There are no cronic flaws with these cars and Porsche had everything ironed out by then. Plus, late 964's are relatively rare due to the low build numbers.

When I was looking for a 964 two years ago, RS's were priced in the mid $40k range for anything nice. Junk brought low $30s. So, it seems the market has definitely softened in the last two years for these cars.

Good Luck with your new car and be sure to post some pics when you get them!

A good, not great, condition RSA with that kind of mileage costs *well* into the $30s around here. Congratulations!
