Post 1994 c4 ownership ?

I am looking into buying a 1994 c4. I am currenlty the owner of a 1974 911 and my daily driver is a 1999 M3. I would rate the car in "Clean" condition ( slight interior wear/75k on the ODO/carfax report was clean). I have tried to read as many post as possible regarding the 964 (c4). I would like the opinions of other c4 owner ( past/present)

I drove the car... it was very difficult to walk away. (3.6L = very nice)

What is the going price for a 1994 c4 widebody.

thanks.. and hopefully I will be a member of the 964 crew soon!

That's a great car. It has the combination of the factory widebody and Turbo brakes (they were made to use up the leftover 964 Turbo bodyshells before the switchover to the 993 body style), all of the 964 refinements, and none of the "stereotypical" 964 problems.

I had seen really nice ones going for ~$40-45k, but with the recent price declines and the wear and mileage that you describe, I would expect $30-35k to be more typical.

Keep in mind that it's a buyer's market for 911's and, with 1995 993 coupes with comparable mileage going for $30-35k, you should be able to negotiate the price downward.

Good luck!

Agree with J-McD on the price. It's a rare car and if you like something different, then that's a good choice. However, if you want optimal performance for DE's or autocrossing, than a narrow-body, C2 is the ticket. The power-to-weight ratio in the widebody represents a disadvantage in timed events and the AWD system will reduce the tossability of the car unless you plan on overhauling the suspension.

If you intend to drive your 964 in foul weather, then the AWD is a major advantage. I guess it all depends on your plans for the car.

Good luck.

Congratulations on the purchase!

The only change that I would make (if it hasn't been done already) is to exchange the factory 17 inch "Turbo Cup" wheels for 18 inch "Speedline for Porsche" 3-piece wheels. See: http://www.rpmsportscars.com/door5.htm

The factory ones are $$$$, but RH wheels makes good reproductions. Good luck!

Welcome to the club Victor! I have a 94 TL coupe which I got about 2 years ago now with only 9000 on the clock. Black on black also. I'd like to see some pictures if you have any - there are not many of us around. Anyway I love my car - great combination of looks, go and reliability (touch wood). Mine also has lowered suspension, 18inch BBS wheels and a few other more lightweight mods.
Good luck with yours

Default Lowering your 94 964 C4

What did you do to lower yours? I've got a 94 C4 Widebody and have contemplated lowering it. Right now it's original but I'd asked about lowering it and the dealer said he would keep it at the original height? What'd it cost you?

I'm in the process of changing out my suspension and replacing the majority of suspension components. I'm using an H&R coilover set that I purchased at a fantastic price. I'm going for the stance that Mark has on his fabulous looking black wide-body. I'm sticking with 17 inch wheels, however switching from the cup 1's to Fiske FM-10s.

Mine had Bilstein HD and HR springs when i bought it. It was for me at least very harsh and rather uncomfortable. A couple of years ago I changed to PSS9's and this was the single best change I ever made (apart from those speedlines...) The ride is now very compliant but not soft - its adjustable too and lowered the car about 30mm I think.

Thanks for the comments. My wheels are 18" but with the PSS9's the ride is very good. The Fiskes will look good too I think.

Pics required at some point........!

Cheers

Hope you all join the Turbo-Look Register TURBO-LOOK Register hope to find some new cars. There are some major problems with the number of peace's.
I have a document that states that 1185 - 964 150 ( c4 widebodys ) were build up worldwide. If that is true it is impossible that over 200 were build for the US markets. I try to get more true facts - so i think it is the interest of all owners to help me find them all.

Mark yours is not longer the very first one - Nr 61 was on Ebay some weeks ago

wide regards

Norbert

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the C4 WB club. Black really highlights the beautiful hips and lines on these cars. I agree, get some 3.6 Speedlines and lower that puppy and you are set. Interestingly, I also had a 1999 M3 as a DD for awhile. Great combination to have. Here's mine, the Luke Skywalker to Mark's Darth Vader. Click on the sig for more pics.

If it feels heavy it could be the dampeners are shot. Also, look into a ROW RS alignment.
Have fun, its a great car.
