Dear John,
Which warning gong. The master warn or the other door open/lights on type, gong.
Master Warn sound is only set off by certain warnings.
The Gong for the doors and the like is probably not hooked up. I have only seen this working on US models and Asian models. In Asia it is also an overspeed warning as well, 120kph.
Ciao,
Adrian

Not the MAster Warn, luckily had no major probs which would set this sounding (BTW is there a way of checking that the master warning gong works without having a problem??)
I mean the gong for leaving the lights on, the car parked NOT in P (Tiptronic) etc etc.
If not connected for a UK car, can it be, ie, does the wiring etc exist?

Dear John,
You will have to check inside the UK for this. I have never seen a 964 with this feature that works on this side of the channel. I have heard that in the USA this function does work but I have also heard from people who say theirs doesn´t work.
The wiring will be there. There was a standard loom used for all versions. How to hook it up, well you will need the RHD wiring diagrams.
The gong relay is on the left hand side of the steering column.
There is no easy way of checking the Master Warn Horn. A low battery can have it sound off. This horn will only come on with a major failure and I do not recommend you disconnect anything to try it either. NO SOUND is good.

In Italy now there is a (ridiculous) law: headlight must be on when going in highways, night and day.
I already forgot lights on two times, last week, so modified my "gong relay" to signalling if, with key off and lights on, door is opened. It was necessary a generic diode and a little cabling near the gong relay.
During working, tried to test the "warning buzzer", but how can I do this ?
On the instruction manual, it "buzzs" only with a great alarm, such as ABS malfunctioning, and when the ABS works during strong brake action.
Well, I was braking very hard, felt the "ABS" working (some vibrations on the brake pedal), but the buzzer was quiet. No sound.
Checked it alone, putting +12V when disconnected, and it was OK ("beep beep beep...").
How can I check this warning buzzer ? An "ABS"-assisted braking isn't enough ?
Thanks
Herbie

Adrain, John,
You CAN easily check the 'master' gong. Simply pull the fuse for the appropriate circuit (I forget just now but, for example, if ABS failure triggers it, just pull that fuse) and switch on the ignition.
I have tested mine several times over the years like this.

Dear JB,
There is only one gong. The door and lights gong is controlled by the gong relay. Then there is the master warn horn which is controlled by the central informer. 2 different circuits.

When my ABS cuts in, the beeper does not sound. I think this is normal. I think you can check to see if the beeper is working by pumping the brake pedal with the engine running. This should give you a brake pressure warning light & the beep to go with it. I know this works on my C4, but I am not sure if it would work on a C2.
Andy
PS. It may be a good idea for us all to say in our signatures either C2 or C4, as their is many different systems on each car. - Just a thought.....

Herbie et al,
I can't be sure that no 'fault' will log if you test the buzzer this way, but no mechanic/technician has ever passed any comment about it to me.
Maybe you could do it straight after a service and follow it with a system-reset if you want to be cautious about fault-logging.

Have any of the UK guys got the lights left on buzzer working?
"There is only one gong. The door and lights gong is controlled by the gong relay." it seems like the wiring is already in place If I have read this correctly.
Guess who left his lights on this morning

Whilst the "master gong' has been mentioned , mine came on just the other day. Am I correct in saying that this is linked to a warning about brake fluid level or have I been mis- informed ??
I did check the brake fluid level immediately after this warning however it was A.O.K. so was a bit stumped as to what may have caused it ???
