Could anyone recommend an in-dash cd with mp3 playback for a 90 c2 that fits the interior look of the car? Most of the receivers on the Crutchfireld site are too flashy and look out of place.
I don't know if they make one with MP3 playback, but I have the Nakamichi 6 CD in-dash head unit in my car, and the look fits beautifully with the 964 dash. It looks like it was meant to go there.
If you're not opposed to Japanese equipment in your German car, you should take a look at the Nakamichi website. You should also look at www.caraudioinnovations.com, and I have found Rod Birch (the owner) to be very helpful when I have called him.
IMHO the best "inkeeping" head unit available is the Becker Pro range, but I'm probably viased as I have the Becker Pro CD which is fantastic. I'm not sure about the MP3 though, have a look at the Becker website at www.becker.de. John Miles also has the same and there is a picture on his site at www.porsche964.co.uk.
Incidentally, i think Becker is Porsche OEM these days, and I recently sat in a Ferrari 550 Barchetta which had the same head unit (likely to outlast the other factory components no doubt).
I have a Nakamichi single CD head unit and agree with Tom - it looks like it was designed for the car. When its switched off its black all over and when its on just a small orange display. Very minimalist and it sounds god too!
