Default Oil Line DIY

Well after my epic trip to Le Mans, the drip from my Thermostat to Oil Filter line got a lot worse. So I have started to remove the offending article. Managed to get the line off the Thermostat easier that I expected. Have now removed the tank, which as you can see in the pic, needs a bit of TLC. Glad I took it out, because in its present state I reckon I would need a new tank at some point. Can't believe the amount of crud up there, even after giving it a really goo go with the pressure washer. The mounting bracket of the innner wing is in a bit of a sorry state, but fixable I think. Seems like a bit of a design flaw allowing all that crud to build up so easily. Anyway hopefully after sanding, priming and repainting, the tank should be pretty good.

That'll buff right out...

I have this line leaking too, at the oil filter end, just a gentle drip, so slow I've never actually seen it drip, although there's always a drop beaded on the underside of the connector, and a smear of oil on the muffler top. Looking at your photos makes me glad I've decided to let my mechanic deal with it.

I can't really see any way to avoid the accumulated crud on the tank, can you? There's no real way to wash in behind and on top of it...and maybe it'd just rust quicker anyway?
