Cool 964 Tool kit (I'm bored...)

Here goes...OK - I think, given that it's a Friday, I can post a slightly silly topic...though do feel free to tell me if I've gone too far this time!

I found a nice picture of a 964 toolkit

<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/964toolkit130603.jpg" alt=" - " />

I looked for one, because I thought mine was in some way incomplete or not original, bearing in mind there seemed to be no obvious way of getting all the tools to fit.

My question is, therefore, how are we supposed to fit 17 tools into 9 compartments of different sizes?!!! My guess is that each and every one of us has sorted them differently, yet Porsche must have had 1 way of doing it! ("A place for everything, and everything in its place")

BMW, IMHO, do it much better...
<img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/m3toolkit.jpg" alt=" - " />...even if there aren't as many tools, at least I don't have to unpack the boot to get to them.

OK- since you brought up the subject of the toolkit, now is a good time for me to ask a question. Do you know (or anyone else) what the tool to remove the small black cap that covers the wheel lock looks like and where I can get one? I have the 17 inch turbo cup rims, and the front caps I can remove with my fingers or maybe carefully pop off with a screw driver, but the rear caps are too deep in the wheel.

I believe there is a specific tool to remove these caps, that I would imagine probably looks like a bent (90 degrees) screw driver, but I don't have one so I don't know what it looks like.

If I try to use a screwdriver on the rears, it may make a mark on the wheel by scratching it- its an ackward angle to get in there...

Rob

Firstly, this is a perfectly reasonable 'Bored Friday' topic!

Secondly, reference the question, I havent got a clue!

Thirdly, I'm so bored and it's so hot that I'm leaving now to drive up to North Norfolk to examine a 50 foot beached Sperm Whale! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

Over and out!

Andrew

My Audi has a special tool like enlarged tweezers for this job - maybe it will work on Porsche?

I think the tool looks like a bit of thick wire with a hook on the end. There's one in my toolkit.

Pop round to Epsom and I'll lend you it : )

Andrew,

Did you get a chance to see some of the responses that you received when you were looking for the same information on the cap removal tool in a <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/cgi-bin/rennforums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=20&t=000536" target="_blank"> previous post</a> a few months ago?

While we're on the topic of where things go - where does the jack crank handle go - I've never been able to work out a place for it!

Cheers,

Oops- thanks guys- I must have been busy and didn't check the replies to my original question- the question must have moved off the first page, and I didn't notice it was ever answered. Thanks, and yes item C in the picture tim posted back in March is exactly what I'm looking for. I may try the coat hanger trick first... Thanks, and thanks for the picture Tim-

The jack crank handle and the wheelbrace fit along inside the area which forms the rear of the bumper, sort of around the jack.

No matter how much you fiddle, you won't get everything to fit snugly.

Or so I thought until, one day, it just all 'fell into place'!

Everything just fitted together so well - the rubber buffers seemed to be perfectly positioned and evrything just 'clicked'.

Needless to say, I've since forgotten how exactly I achieved this!

Actually I find that the wheel lock key is perfect for removing the plastic cap.

just slide it into the wheel turn it so the teeth of the key are facing the cap and then a sharp pull and catch the cap.

if you do it wrong you tear the side of the cap !!!!

have fun.

OMG!! ...pictures of COMPLETE tool kits!

...I need a towel!! <img border="0" alt="[hiha]" title="" src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" />

I was thrilled to figure out that the tool kit that came with my 964 was complete...first one out of FOUR Porsches I've owned.

I did go to use the manual window allen socket and the allen would turn inside the socket, redering it USELESS. <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />

SO, I ordered a new one from Porsche and all was okay...I needed it while the car was disassembled for it's paint job and had NO battery power.

...oh yeah, the sunroof handle worked like a champ too!

Glad you all liked the topic!

Joey B - great picture. Just what I wanted. Where did you get it from? (edit - oh,I see MSRoadRace!)

All - locking wheel nuts...When was the last time you heard of anyone having their wheels stolen? (this could,I suppose be because everyone uses locking wheel nuts...). I've taken mine off.

My locking lug nuts are ALWAYS the first thing to go!

I figure my car doesn't really sit anywhere where it would conveniently be put up on blocks...if MY wheels get stolen they shouldn't be that hard to find on eBay...and I swap them SO VERY OFTEN!!

...gee, wonder why?
