Centre console
I have a 1990 LHD C4 which was originally a German car ( no jokes please! ) before being imported shortly before i bought it earler this year.
It differs from every other C4 I have seen so far in that it has a centre console which runs vertically from just in front of the three switches for the hazard lights, 'i' switch, and cntral locking button.
The two dials for the rear spoiler and the lockable diff are mounted vertically at the bottom of the centre console, above them being a Siemens Navigation system ( not working ) and an original-looking Blaupunkt radio/CD player (also not working/connected ). My local friendly specialist ( Unit Eleven in Warrington ) had not seen anything like it before and thought that it must be an early C4 - it does not have a rear wiper either. The VIN number, however, includes the letter 'L' indicating a 1990 build, so maybe not so early!
The console looks as though it was there from new and unless you knew otherwise, you would assume that all C4/2s were the same. Definitely not some aftermarket concoction!
Any ideas?!

Nick,
Does it look like the picture in this thread...
<a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=002017" target="_blank">thread</a>
If it does, then I think its a console that came as part of a factory communications unit, (mobile phone, etc)
Regards

Bins,
not quite, as mine has a Siemens Navigational system ( circa 1990 ) just above the two circular switches (for diff locks & spoiler) which is all buttons, and then there is a period Blaupunkt single CD player/tuner above that.
I will post a picture as soon as I get a digial camera - this weekend.

Assuming it to be an original Porsche part, it is a variation of a center console offered in those days by Department VRS (now more commonly known as the Exclusive Department). Depending upon the equipment requested by the customer, different configuratiions were used.

It certainly appears to be original and the materials and stitching etc match the rest of the car.
Here's another picture now that I've sussed out the camera!
Thanks Nick

Looking at the second picture, while parts of the unit appear to be orginal, certain mountings appear as if a part of a factory center console were placed in a vehicle not intended to have it. For example, in the factory examples I have seen, the top of the unit is flush against a straight dash line, not sitting within the former ashtray space and the unit is one piece rather than being separate from the center tunnel. Compare, for example, to the attached.
