I bought my 89 C4 in April 2000 and have put 50,000Km (31,250 miles) on it since then. I drive it every day to work, summer and winter, except when I go to visit clients (then I drive the Yukon!) It also goes skiing every weekend in the winter. With good snow tires it is a winter wonder.
On summer weekends, the only time I don't drive it is when I'm at the track with my 924S, then it gets driven by my better half. Of course the C4 has been tracked on a few occasions too.
I loved my 968 that I sold before I bought the C4 but I love the C4 more...it has more soul!
My wife, who is an exemplary judge of character, likes the C4 best of any car we have ever had.

Three Wheelin'
driving another car helps maintain appreciation for my 964--you can't eat your favorite dish at every meal without it losing some
Could'nt agree more! I have a 6 mile commute in central London everyday - I take my Citroen 2CV - air cooled, horizontally opposed engine - but only 2 cylinders and 600CC!! Most Friday nights (late!)I take the C4 Coupe on a 125 mile trip up to the coast for the weekend. As a friend said 'you go from the sublime to the ridiculous'

Hey Piers,
Maybe I could join you in one your 'up the coast' late Friday evening drives? I am away for the rest of the year (and the car is stored now), but would be glad to when I come back.
Best regards

Dear Sean,
These are very common around where I live. In fact one the businessmen in my village collects and restores them. He always has one or two for sale. Great winter auto if you can get around the heating problem,

PS: I have always had a secret desire to own a 2CV. Just never got around to it.

Three weeks ago, I bought my first Porsche. It was a 38,000 mile garage queen when I bought it, and it will remain one in my hands.
I drive a total of about 65 miles to/from work each day, and I have a company car for that. Plus, my insurance is much lower if I swear on a stack of bibles never to take it near the office! Of course, I've already broken that promise once...
The car was prepped for winter storage yesterday, and I anticipate driving it about 3,000 miles/year (during the 6 months of decent weather), mainly around the hills that are located within 2 hours of Montreal in all directions except west. Weekends and vacations only, though.
Nice to be here.

I drive my 91 C4 every day in the winter. My commute is 35 miles each way. It's more fun and more capable in the snow than any other car. No problems to date with rust on anything- and this is a salt using area. The greatest risk in the snow is someone else sliding into you. Since these cars are long-lived, and depreciation hits even low mileage cars, why not drive them in the winter?

Track Day
Daily driver here. In NW Fl can drive year-round, most of year with top down. When wx predicts some of our torrential FL rainfalls I may take another car (Suburban or Maxima), but 20 mile commute is most often made in the P-car. Only drive numerous mile to mile and a half clips on the weekends, but at a much higher avg speed than commute.

As for most 911 owners in Sweden my Turbo is used April-November (December-Mars requires winter tires by law). During the summer I take it to work when I feel like it. I do not appreciate using it in traffic jams. Weekends it´s always used for all things like shopping, pleasure rides, travel and track racing with "Porsche Club Sweden".
10000 km and two sets of rear tires per year!

My 92 C2 coupe is almost the exact opposite of a weekend car: I drive it every day to work (I have a long but easy commute), but it doesn't get driven often on the weekends because I don't like to let the car sit in mall parking lots, at the movie theater, etc. I used to hate valeting the car at restaurants until I noticed that they always park it right in front so they only have to drive it a few feet.
I bought it with 36K miles last summer and it now has about 54K miles, so it's definitely not a garage queen.

Until August my 93 RS America was a daily driver. However, the arrival of yet another child heralded the age of the RSA weekend warrior; she only comes out to play on the weekend or in the evening.
Also, the area of town I now work in isn't favorable for Porsches, so the weekend warrior status is also for the car's survival.

Richard,
Well, since you asked...
Survey Says!
Most of the people who responded drive their cars almost every day. Not only that, but a lot of respondents use their car in inclimate (read snowy) weather rather than storing it for the winter.
So...seems to me that the 964 is a pretty robust little car.
OK, but this brings up some other questions:
Do the people who post on this board represent the "typical" 964 owner?
What is the "typical" 964 owner?
Hmmm, sounds like fodder for another thread....

Melissa,
It seems that you have obtained responses from a fairly representative cross-section of car owners, albiet an enthusiastic group, but typical at this point.
Considering that the 964 was last produced as a 1994 model, you are well-beyond the leasees who long ago returned their cars. So you now have long-term owners, like myself (15+ years), entry level owners who got into a nice high performance car for around $30,000, and driver's ed and track enthusiasts who can have a lot of fun with these cars without spending a small fortune to build a full "race car".
Nice thread.

I drive my 91 cab almost everyday I am in town. My 10 and 12 year old have actually mastered the art of "shotgun" and dont tear up the leather getting in and out of the back seat. My Honda RC51 is my other mode of transportation. Thank god we have great weather in SoCal so the top is donw a good portion of the time.
