So...
Marc and Jaime, do you notice less of an odor now? Marc, I remember you removed, left bonnet open for a week to clear odor in carpet. Did the fuel filler replacement do the trick?

Worked well for me too. I aired out the bonnet for a week and rented a carpet cleaner too to wash the bonnet carpets.

You could also try replacing the seal on your gas cap (or the whole gas cap) as that can be another source.
It is impressive though how much gas stink the carpet can hold so I'd suggest cleaning that well first.

I did replace the seal on the gas cap and I shampooed the carpet, but it still retains the odor. I noticed an immediate change after replacing the fuel filler though. I think I might shampoo the carpet again and maybe leave the carpet out of the car when I store it this winter. That should give it a good chance to air out.
