Hello,

Has anybody experiece with fuel system cleaning products who clean your injectors and keep your fuel system in good shape?

There are a few good brands on the market, wich you can fill in your fuel tank, and it will keep your lines, pump, injectors etc. in good shape.
[valves are cleaner to they say]

During the years there stucks carbon and other sorts of dubris in your fuel system, even a % of water, wich is bad for your fuel system.

Who does advise those modern cleaners/additives?

Here in the states many of us periodically use a large bottle of Chevron Techron to claen the valves. It seems to help. The only suggestion I have heard is that when you use the product, plan on changing your oil soon since it tends to wash the gunk into you oil.

Porsche issued a technical bulletin a number of years ago saying that Techron was an approved additive to clean the fuel system and fuel injectors. The instructions were to on a nearly empty tank add the techron then fill with gas, run the tank to half full, then fill up with gas and run the tank to near empty. I use this once a year and for years have filled the tank with Techron and run it to near empty without the mid-level refill. While the product does caution you to not use it multiple times before changing oil, I'm not sure I'd worry about one usage with 12 quarts of oil (versus the more average 4-5 quarts in other vehicles). However, if there is any concern, just do it shortly before a scheduled oil change.

You would want to use the larger of the two bottles, for a 20 gallon fuel tank. Techron is made by Chevron.

I run the tank nearly empty till the warn light comes on, add the large techron, and the about 12 gallons of fuel, run the tank until the light comes on again, and refill completely

Arjan, as you could probably tell from my previous comments - I too utilize this very popular ritual.

I would imagine that you have Chevron products over there?? If not, look through an issue of "911 and Porsche World" - I'm about sure you could find a resource in there? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

John, just PM for me. I do this with all my vehicles, including the SAAB w/ 160K miles on it. Still runs great.

I dont know if Techron is available in the UK.
Some use STP or Werth.
I havent tried anything yet, since Im not sure which to use. So I just stick with Shell Optimax fuel.
Its a similar question of whether one should use an oil additive. Never got to the end of that either.

Today I did one 375 Ml of 'TUNAP' Injection system cleaner in my fuel tank.
The 'written rules'say, drive next following fueltanks empty untill aprox. 50% and fill your tank again to max.
This is for the best result.

TUNAP is a German manufact. for very good automotive stuff, like special greas, diesel system cleaners, petrol fuel system cleaners etc.
They told me that this is safe for catalytic converters, lambda sensors, fuel lines en fuel pump/injectors.
The advise of that manufact. is to use 1 bottle of their Fuel system cleaner every 10000 miles for best and clean results.

To answer the question of John, for me it's important, to keep injection system 100% in good shape.
Parts are expensive, and driving in the city is not so good for your car. The engine get's not his maximum temp. for self cleaning, so we have to help it a little.
When you use cleaners like the one we spoke about, your fuel consumption is also going down.

The reason I asked is that it could be a problem, tipical for Porsche, to use cleaners like those.
So I aked for safety reasons.

General Motors Germany supports Tunap cleaners, for them it's safe enough to advise for consumer's cars.

I use it as preventative maintenance since MTBE-based fuels have been known to produce valve deposits.

I use Chevron's finest 93-Octane exclusively in both my P-car and in '94 300ZX. Is this equivalent to the suggested use of Techron cleaner? Or, would the recommended treatment every so many miles/months/whatever be of additional benefit?

I use Chevron fuels due to Techron content, and my normal station moves lots of fuel at less cost than other locals.

They say if you're a regular user of Chevron gasoline with Techron additive, that you don't need to use the periodic Techron additive in bottles that we're talking about...but could it hurt? I doubted.

I do it for peace of mind as well...my '91 runs like a scalded dog, with NO chip, just an airbox mod and exhaust mods...so I'll stick with my ritual.
