O.k. Arthur,

I work as a Service Manager/Chief at a Opel Dealership.

We have this in our Service program for costumer cars.

I think Opel Dealers in your neigborhood will have it also.

Greetings,
Arjan

Jeff/Bob,

From what i have been ale to find out, the amount of Techrion added to the Chevron fuels is small compared to the shot from a large bottle. My local expert tell me that this higher level does make a difference and is well worth the effort.

FYIW-I run Chevron almost exclusively in all my cars and since I have started doing so, many of my rough running problems on my beaters has stopped.

Hi All,

I just received an email from Bob at Pelican Parts about fuel additives.
This was his response on the matter.

"Modern fuels sold by major brands in the US and other developed countries contain an effective additive package to prevent combustion chamber
deposits, and to keep the fuel injection clean.

The only time I recommend using an additive such as Techron is when the engine is demonstrating
performance problems, or when a car is being brought out of extended storage.

Generally, your Porsche will give excellent performance on pump gas with no other additives."

Regards

I have never used an additive because have always read that modern day quality unleadeds don't need this. Never had any problems either. Maybe I'm lucky?

My understanding is that fuels with MTBE can throw deposits over time. Here in CT. we've had gas with MTBE for years (to be phased out in the future due to environmental concerns). Using a bottle of Techron once a year, have not had any problems with deposits.

Since I havent found any techron suppliers in the UK, I dont know which to use. So I had better leave well alone until I know of a recommended and reputable fuel additive.

Which fuel additives do the UK drivers use?

Chevron has a mail in rebate on Techron during April and May. Details at http://www.chevron.com/prodserv/nafl/auto/content/promotions_rebates.shtm

Cool

Dear Bins, and others,

Fuel contains a small part of 'cleaners' by them selfs, that is correct.

But in your fuel tank collects water [H2O] from condensation, and adcid who can't be removed from the modern fuels alone.
This does not work together with fuel, so it will be there for ever.
The cleaners, or how you want to call them, makes it possible that water and all other stuff what not belongs in your fuel system, moves out of the fuel system and burns.
When you have a water concentration in a injector, you could get a implosion. So you can damage the injectors.
Here in the Netherlands, a large number of car's drive on LPG [Liquide Petrol Gas] no Porsche's, just company cars like Mercedes/Bmw/Ople/etc., so the fuel systems is been switched off, because you don't need it.
By the time you want to drive on petrol, it does'nt work any more because the injectors are stuck.
You can do 2 things, buy new once or screw them out and put them in a glas with the Fuel line cleaner for 1 night, and the next day they work again. And... look how much dubris is coming off those things.

So the cleaners work fine.

Just for your interest.

Recently, one of my other cars had the check engine light come on after a very diffcult time getting it to start. I brought it to the dealer who told be that the local fuel had cruded up the valves. After cleaning the valves he suggested I use a good grade of gas (Chevron) and add a bit bottle of Techron bout once a year. He told me that folks who do this, have no problems with their vavles crdding up but he has seen it often in those who run what ever fuel is available since "gasoline is gasoline".

YMMV

As posted on a different (and probably incorrect) thread, I purchased a bottle of Wynn's Petrol Injection System Cleaning fluid. I will look for the Techron product in the future - perhaps at an Opel/Vauxhall dealer here in the UK? Hopefully, all the products will work in roughly the same way...

Darned Norwegians!

Yes, you did post to the wrong thread...consequently this made ME post to the wrong thread...haha, TWO wrongs make a right - right?

Good luck with the Wynn's product - let us know what you think, for the meantime I'll stick with Techron "shots".

Jeff - "Let us know what you think....??"

Well, I think I can already answer that one. I think that it gives a certain peace of mind. I don't buy the 'gives more hp, gives better economy, makes you better looking and your car's paintwork bird-**** resistant....' BUT if it removes one drop of moisture in the system then I would be happy. Other than that, it's just one more thing to spend your money on!

I have only driven about 20 miles since the additive went in, so I can't comment any further yet. At least there are no flames and smoke coming from the exhaust which has got to be a positive thing right?

I'll look for Techron in the future - I am going to Costco on Saturday to pick up some oil and bits and pieces so maybe they will have some.

This is the correct thread right?
