Fist of all, I assume this is not a Porsche shop. If it is, take it outta there!
I'm not 100% sure if 993 & 964 are the same when it comes to adjusting hadbrakes but I'm guessing it is the same. Here's a pic of my 993, yellow (very pretty...) arrow points very you should adjust it.
Obviously, first you have to remove the plastic center console cover. it's attached with three screws if I remember correctly (you'll see tham easily, one is below the handbrake).

I just came back from the shop where I had the parking brake tightened as it was getting loose (e.g., too many clicks). If this is what you need help on, it took the guy 10 minutes to do it as I watched. He took off the rear wheels and there are some small pea sized holes facing you. in the brake. He stuck what appeared to be screwdriver in there and kinda pushed (rather than turned) the screw back towards the rear of the car several times. It did this to both sides, checking how tight it was with his hand by spinning the wheel manually.
Did the trick.

Both procedures will work, one was taking out potential slack in the cable, the other was putting a few turns on the brake shoe adjuster screw.
If you run out of cable adjustment, first, check the condition of your brake shoes...this will require removal of your rear brake calipers and rotors as the mechanism is located inside the "hat" of your rear rotors.
If you have ample material left, put a few turns on the adjusters and make sure you can get your rotors back on okay, if not, you adjusted them too far.
Once you get your rotors back on, test your handbrake to see if you have tightened up the shoes enough...or too much.
If too much, you may be able to put some slack on the cable so that you have to pull the lever up a few notches for the parking brake to engage properly.
SO, both adjustments are good, the one for the cable is kind of a "fine tune to preference" adjustment though - at least that's the intention.
Good luck!
