That doesn't look like the serial number of the engine. The serial number of the engine is stamped on the right hand pillar (standing behind the car) that supports the fan. It's not easy to see. Even if the car turns out to be one without the cylinder head update, I wouldn't lose sleep over it (just my opinion though).
As far as synthetic vs. dino juice goes, there are probably a billion posts on this debate on the web. On a car I used to own, oil consumption went up when I switched to synthetic, but that was a different type of car all together.

The G6400 is the designation for the transmission in a 964 C4 and the M6401 is for the engine type in a manual transmission '91 964....
As to your oil issue, it may be over filled a bit and if it is a worry to you take out a half quart....bet you will see a difference on the dial at idle when fully warmed up....
Congratulations....I had a '91 964 C2 and I am still sorry I sold it last year.

A well looked after 964 should go forever.. they are spectacular cars by any measurement.
I had a '90 C4, and I must admit, I had a number of reliability issues... but after reading all the forums and books I could find, it was obvious to me that there are some known problems that seem to occur, and once those are fixed, the car runs like a dream.
I spent about three months (thank goodness for the 3 month warranty ) getting over reliability niggles, and then the car ran like a dream.
Never had an oil problem tho'...
Good luck!

Hi Jay,
Welcome to the Family!
I know the feeling you have now, it's like to go out with a girl you want, but not know what to expect.[butterfly feeling]
Have fun, I have it to with my 1992 C2 with 91000 miles on it.
Just check the things on the forum, and you will see that you bought something nice to have.
BE GLAD YOU DID NOT BUY A FERRARI FROM THAT AGE!
Have fun!

Thanks guys for all the help. I'm really glad to have found this forum.
After reading all the posts about oil level I did drain some via the thermostathousing and got it down to about 3/4 on the oil level gauge and dipstick.
Thanks a million.
By the way Marc I am in Montreal as well. Any good recommendations on where to go for service?
