Cool Robert Linton - CF Wheels???

I saw this link while visiting the Corvette forum

Carbon Fiber outer rim combined with a magnesium center hub section - 8lbs Custom applications and sizes are available upon request such as: BMW, Porsche, Viper, and Miata, just to name a few.

Q: How are the center spokes bonded to the carbon fiber barrel?
A: The center spokes are attached to the carbon fiber barrel by 10mm titanium fasteners, then the attachment points are sealed to prevent air loss.

Link for the complete text here: CF Wheels from ATI Performance

I wonder if Robert has created a set already for his car.

Follow the link... US$6K for a set (2-17, 2-18 for a Corvette)... somehow I thought they would be more expensive...

I would think that, if there was any structural damage, that you'd just have to buy a new one. I would imagine that a curb would shred that rim... From what I've read it's extremely strong... as long as it's left alone...

I guess you could make a heck of a Christmas ornament out of it!

I know he asked for interest... but never saw anything else as far as whether it took place or not...

As far as curb rash.

I don't know how they designed the wheel. There are some scenarios where it could be extremely detrimental to break the fiber on the outside. Such as if they wrapped the fiber back and forth across the width of the wheel.

Hopefully they designed it with curb rash in mind, so considering this my guess is you'd be ok for the most part but you would definitely need to reseal the damaged area. Resin coats carbon fiber and holds it together and would need to be repaired to keep the seperation from growing.

Ultimately this is a question you should pose to them. Undoubtedly, they have put some thought into this.

My apologies for any linguistic misunderstandings which I may have inadvertantly occasioned. I was merely expressing my personal disapproval of the aesthetic properties of the above wheel, and perhaps questioning the stylistic validity of the design, while certainly opening a debate on the value for money aspect of such an artefact.

Or to use a little more vernacular ... "It's a minging slice of chav bling"
