I think you have to be an enthusiast to buy a 15 year old German sports car. For the same money, one could get a new RX-8 that would have equal or better performance, decent looks, and a warranty. It would also be "just another Mazda".

While a few people here may have selected a 964 based on the time-honoured advice of buying the newest Porsche you can afford. Others, like me, selected the 964 as it is the last of the "true" 911's. It is the last of the air-cooled flat-6 cars that have the classic look. As a friend of mine said after test driving a 993 then seeing my car..."now THAT is what a 911 is supposed to look like"

I think some people take this stuff FAR too seriously and start to invent stories in support of their argument, beliefs or thoughts.
Just chill out and enjoy your 964s and stop trying to justify and defend your ownership.
The retention span of information read in magazines is limited. If somebody says something bad about the 964 give it 10 seconds of your time and forget about it.
Also be honest. If most here had the chance to move to a 993 or a GT-3 or a 997 Carrera S they would. This is not a reflection on the 964 this is just life and called "Moving on".
Somebody else will be moving up behind you and will take the 964.
I started with a 924.
Ciao,
Adrian.

The 911 has changed from 996 onwards into a grand tourer. The Boxster is the new 911 - as will be the Cayman - but I couldn't own one of those incase a little blighter with a felt tip turned it into a "Gayman" :-)

The C4 is a little heavier and a little more complicated.
If you need real AWD (read driving in winter) then the C4 is the way to go.
If you do not need AWD then the C2 is the way to go.
Put another way. Living in Switzerland I am happy with the C4 (read looking out of window right now and the lousy cold weather). If I was living in Southern California I would have a C2. Back home in Australia I would have a Turbo. Ooops you did not ask about the Turbo
Ciao,
Adrian.

I would love a turbo but the only thing I have seen in the market is Arena Red which is not my fav color.

OK maybe if I can save enough what about putting twin turbo into 964 Cabrio 4??. How is that sound?

You can put a supercharger into a C4. See http://www.turboperformance.com/Pors...C/993sckit.htm

Marc,

If I end up keeping the girl. The wife and I have been looking into TPC for a long time. Biggest bang for the buck. Definately need the intercooler to go with it and a few other goodies like clutch and flywheel upgrades...oh and a new spoiler to fit the intercooler.

And if you get it before I do.....I definately will take you up on the offer to go for a ride.

"The RSA was $US53,900 in 1993 which was 10 grand cheaper than the equivalent Carrera 2 Coupe so in 1993 the standard coupe was around 63 grand in basic form."

I bought my somewhat optioned RS America (no sunroof) new from a dealer in Sept 93 for $48.5. Times were tough.

Never understood the 964 bashing. The RSA was the best track day car I've ever owned. Raced it in PCA's Club series.

Who would have thought that the cheapest 964 (the RSA) would hold the best resale value of the bunch (except for the Speedster and the America Roadster)?

For me, it's purely aesthetic. ( 'shallow' if you will )

But the lines of the car just don't please my eye.

I won't go into extensive detail exactly why not, but you did ask what might be behind the motivation.

The 964 looks a bit 'claddish'. IMO it just took Porsche a while to get the integrated bumpers down right, and this wasn't it.

In styling terms, when the 993 came out many of us said 'ahhh...NOW you've got it right!'.

For me, the 964 is a bit of a 'tweener'.

For me the front of the 964 looks like a 911. To me the front of a 993 looks a bit to Japanise more like a Mitsubishi.
