Default What To Do? Recaro Pole Position Install.

Okay, this is the second weekend I have attempted to install my Pole Position seats. I had the bracket for the seat belt receptacle redesigned, but it still interferes with the side mounting bracket. Question: should I have the shop continue to modify the bracket til it is right, bolt the seat belts to the transmission hump (like my old '84), or is there something else that I should look into? Thanks in advance for your input.

How are you trying to mount the seatbelts? Below is what the Factory came up with for 964 Speedster seats (see part 24). I have these in my car and used them with both Recaro SPG's and Pole Positions.

Thanks for the response. Well, I guess I should say that I am using Speedware side mounts and a Speedware bracket for the seat belt receptacle, not #24 above. The problem is that the Speedware side mounts are wider at the bottom, which then interferes with the seat belt bracket. I called my local Porsche dealer last weekend for #24, but they had to order it. I tried working it out with Speedware instead.

If you can't use something like the Porsche part shown above, the alternative would be to weld a plate/nut to the inside of the tunnel, and run the bolt to it. This is a fairly common part, as that's the recommended way to mount belts for racing.

Here's what the Porsche part looks like up close:

I think we have solved the problem; drill a hole in the side mounting bracket and attach the seat belt receptacle to the side mount, which is bolted to the floor. Recaro side mounts have this hole drilled already as part of the design. Does this sound safe to everyone? This was a suggestion from my wrench.

This statement is completely untrue.

No, it doesn't sound safe but many people do this.

What part is completely untrue? I looked at a brand new Recaro side mount and it had a square hole in it toward the back of the mount. Just curious, please do not take this post as confrontational.

Sorry, if I overreacted!

I've owned the Recaro Pole Position and SPG side brackets and the only holes present are used to mount or position the seats.

It just struck me as surprising that your mechanic would suggest that the brackets have accommodations for street belts. These parts are used primarily in race cars equipped with harnesses.
