Default Switched to Silverstars

Decided to switch to Silverstar headlights today, and I'm glad that I did. My old headlights were somewhat decent at night and I was hoping that the Silverstars would be a step up. They're definitely better than the original bulbs, even though I haven't really put them to the test with any real night driving yet, just a little test jaunt. For $40 for the pair, they provide increased visibility and safety, and I'd say they're certainly worth the price tag. Switching out the bulbs only requires removing and replacing 10 screws total, and it only took me 20 minutes. Check out this thread for a step-by-step on removing the lights.

Brian... BIG DIFFERENCE! It seem to be a much brighter, whiter light. I just switched mine to one of the "Super White" bulbs offered by the local auto parts store. I don't think they are THAT bright though.

I hope you have better luck with the longevity of the bulbs. I had Silverstars in my 4Rnr two years ago; and they were both busted within 6months. I put the original 1997 factory bulbs in and they still work. I sure did like the change in color frequency.

Do most of you P-guys relay your headlamps to get the most out of the available lamps? That's a big-time improvement on my other german cars, and even the japanese ones.

Brian,
Where can we purchase these bulbs? I'd say that's a huge diiference you got there, IMHO.

I put them in 1 1/2 years ago, also found that it was a great upgrade.

Wattage is the same, I didn't install any supplemental relay.

I must say that I would have to credit much of the extra brightness to cleaning the internals as Bhensarl outlines. Absolutely go the extra step and clean!!

Overall, I like the results.

Hey guys,
I took a look at the bulbs that are currently in the car.....They are 100W/80W bulbs. These Silverstars are 65/45W bulbs. What is the "standard" wattage bulbs that these cars were shipped with? Brian, what wattage bulbs are on your "before" shot?

Brian - You didn't mention if you car has H4 with H4 bulbs or H5 lenses with 9004 bulbs. Can you specify?

Sorry everybody, I meant to post that info.

I got mine at Pep Boys. I would assume that most any auto parts dealer would have them.

I'm not sure about the wattage, but I do know that they were Sylvania 9004s. I replaced the original Sylvanias with the 9004 silverstars.

That actually sounds pretty high. I would hope you have relays installed for them.

Dave, those 100W bulbs were in the car when I bought it last year. Would there be a relay for the bulbs in the front fuse box (in the bonnet)? I have never had a problem with them.......but I'm giving the Silverstars a try.

Great mant! Now I need to add one more task to the list .. I need to check what I have in mine. But that certainly looks like a must do upgrade.
