Post Cab top won't open.

Yesterday I went to put the top down and the left locking motor didn't seem to work. I did the professional thing and I gave it a sturdy smack and then it worked. This morning I tried to open the top and the right motor is lifting but the left side just stays put. I think I can hear a faint clicking coming from the motor where it meets the windshield.

Any ideas? Thanks,
Peter

Do Not F*** With It!

The cabriolet top is acutated with by a single(?) motor, clutch and cables. If one of those clutches is slipping, one side of the top will retract while the other stays in place. This can literally twist your roof and snap piece of the cabriolet frame. Both sides of the cabriolet top must open & close togeter.

I suggest you take your car to a reputable garage. Since you live in FLL (near me!), I'd recommend you go see Vince at Gulf Performance or Bobby V. at Foreign Affairs. Both shops are located in Pompano Beach and have great reputations with PCA members.

I've heard of Foreign Affairs before, which one of the two would you use?

Thanks,

C4 Guy is right, take it to a pro. I fixed mine myself and it cost me an extra $1500. On a day when I should of been relaxing, I repacked my gears with grease and it worked fine for two weeks. One day while dropping the top I believe I went the wrong way and the gears ripped off from the frame(both sides). Two weeks before I notice a sensor on the gears and did not think much of it. I was suppose to resest or re-align the sensor so when the top is open or closed the gear would stop turning. Mine did not. Good luck!

I know guys in both shops are Rennlist regulars, so I'll refrain from picking a favorite in public. I've taken my car to both shops and have been pleased with both of them.

Since they're within 10 minutes of each other, I'd suggest that you stop by both shops - talk to the owners and see who you feel most comfortable working with.

Be forwarned! Both shops are like Porsche-Disneyland! You're going to see a lot of really great cars with incredible mods. If you're not careful you'll find yourself blissfully writing them checks for big brake kits, coil over suspension, or a 3.8L motor.

Atually let him try it.... !!!!!

The bang my neighbour's Cabrio top made because one side was siezed was very impressive. It frightened women and children for some distance.

What happens is that when you torsion the frame it has to give somewhere. In his case one of the spars in the frame broke and came out through the side of the roof. Then it seems the part was on back order from Porsche so he had to live without the car for a month.

So if you want to hear a really good sound.... keep playing with the switch.
