Floor Panel Insulation Replacement
Hi, I am am ripping out all my water soaked floor insulation foam and replaceing them. Anyone know where I can get replacements for them?
That's the foam runner for all 4 footweels, rear seats and the back of the rear seats.
Is there a light weight version? What does the 964RS use?
Thanks in advance

pzull,
RS doesn't use back of rear seats foam padding (it's heavy - stock rear seat/shelf piece is around 6-7 lbs, as I recall). If you can't find them used or use an alternate foam material, the Porsche pieces are:
964.556.217.00 Left Front
964.556.218.00 Right Front (-91)
964.556.218.02 Right Front (92-)
964.556.215.00 Left Rear
964.556.216.00 Right Rear
964.556.239.00 Behind Seat/Shelf Mat (-90)
964.556.239.01 Behind Seat/Upper Shelf Mat (91-) Also available in upper and lower sections
964.556.239.02 Behind Seat/Upper Shelf Mat, RS America
964.556.233.01 Lower seat surround
Upper shelf is where your rear stereo speakers are, if you have them.
Were weight a concern, I'd leave out all the foams mentioned above. That would require a supported floor in front to go over the wire bundles, which can easily be done with some spacers and plywood or aluminum. Or use the front foam and leave the rest out. Tradeoff is there may be a little more noise in the passenger compartment. Of course you will have shaved off maybe 25+ lbs of weight, too.

Dear Pzull,
I replaced mine with tool box foam. It is very hard and very light. This is the stuff you cut the tools shape out. I have no idea what it is called by trade name. I just cut panels to suit all the cut outs in the floor pan.
Personally I would not advise installing the original stuff again. I removed the stuff from theback and left it out completely. I did not notice any major changes in noise level and I reckon the heating works better.
Ciao,
Adrian

PZULL,
I am current looking for a set of front floor insulation foam for my 90 Cab, and I am interested in setting up a deal for your insulation foam if you are not using it anymore. Please contact me at aluu1@jhmi.edu. Thanks, Andrew
