Question Opening fuel lines

Can anyone think of anything that could be damaged cranking the ignition with fuse #34 (fuel pump / oxygen sensor) disconnected? I need to crack open the fuel lines and I'd like to reduce the fuel pressure to as little as possible beforehand. I'm hoping that if I try and start the car with the fuel pump not operating that eventually the pressure will goto 0? Has anyone tried this? Will it work?

I'd just put a rag around the line you want to open. There is little fuel that will come out, even with 55psi fuel. A shop rag should be able to soak up most of it. That is what I've done recently.
