70k miles indicated

I asked the mechanic if he thought it was genuine( i know how easy it is to disconect the speedo) and he said by the state of teh engine it seemed genuine. i.e next to no oil leak from head etc, etc.

car has full service history and a fair bit of paperwork. all mot's and receipts seem to back this up as well.

but you never know any of the previous owners could have disconceted the speedo for a few thousand miles a year.

70k miles isnt a lot for a 14 year old car so im a littlw suspiciou.s

Mine only has 58k miles (1991) so your mileage does not seem out of line.

Thanks mark. Yes I know some people buy these cars and use them very little so it could be genuine.

I bought it with 65k indicated and have put 5k on already. Im doing 1k a month as its my only car.

it does seem surprising that a porsche with 70k miles needs a rebuild already. Really sorry to hear this story Pesty.

ok picked car up today. car runs fine rs fly wheel no problem at all not stalled once covered around 400 miles today.
Idle is rock solid a few odd noises now and again but I believe this to be normal on an rs flywheel.

Annoyed at speedo not working seems like there is one problem after another. have to take it back in 1k miles so mechanic can check vlave gaps of something and change oil. He will alos look at teh speedo.

oh and I forgot to add VAT on top of the esimate(you would think at 34 I would have worked this out by now) so that takes the final bill to......

£6,102.50p

Plus whatever it takes to fix speedo + 3- 4 hours labour + oil in a thousand miles

Pesty
Could you tell us more about the diffrence after the RS clutch install. The C4 has a lighter flywheel so I wonder if the diffrence is as huge as on a C2

cant tell you too much as I havnt pushed it on acceleration but it dosnt seem too drastic a change. The revs do drop quicker on down changes quite markedly.

I have a couple of times set of with too many revs so I think it must rev quicker but I wouldnt say it has improved acceleration times worth mentioning.

will know more as the miles pile on and I can push it again

I know what it says in Adrian's book but a MWF (964-102-239-00) for a MY89 964 just weighed in at 11 pounds, almost exactly the same as my RS LWF and not 19 pounds. This only confused me even more... FYI. It looks like the MWF will NOT work on the MY90+ bellhousing, only the MY89- unless I measured it wrong.

Bottom end problems arnt that common in 964s?
Its probably a result of someone skipping servicing and gunk just making its sweet merry presence felt an owner down the line.

My own saw 190k miles before a rebuild, bottom end hardly worn - the top end smoked like a chimney (ex valve guides) everything else fine.

Mine was serviced every 3-6k miles though for the last 100k miles

goodl clean oil is the best thing you can give your 911. Do it as often as you can
10 litres of 10/40 is a damned good investment as often as you can manage it,

not much point though if some cheapskate has skimped in the past.
check those service stamps!

Mine had 120k when I bought it. Power degraded after that as guides wore. Just did my rebuild from bottom up. About $6K (US$). Runs marvelous now. My crank was perfect, pistons and cylinders showed immeasurable wear.

Glad yours is running again.

BTW how does one add a signature line?

I think you need to be a paying member. The option is under UserCP.
