Original windshield vs aftermarket

Original windshield vs aftermarket
Can I get some advise. I need to replace my cracked original windshield and the Porsche dealer said that his original $1300 part is better than the $750 aftermarket because its thicker, hence less likely to crack on my Targa, and it is less prone to squeeking in the frame.I wonder why it would squeek if its epoxied in? Does anyone have any experience with these potential problems. My original windshield was squeeking before it cracked when I hit a deep dip in the road ..

Hmmm. Had my windshield replaced last november with a new one (with integral antenna) from local Porsche dealer. Price on the windshield was a little over $700. Installation cost roughly another $100 (by non-Porsche specialist) and is guaranteed forever. No problems since. I'm sure an aftermarket windshield would be a lot less but since insurance was paying for it, I didn't go looking. Call a windshield installation company; they'll give you a free quote.

Most people would pay extra money for lightweight glass (Carrera RS/Cup).
That seems a bit high.
Have you checked with the cost + 15% Porsche parts companies (Sunset Imports, Hendrick's Porsche, Clair Porsche Parts, etc....the ones that normally advertise in Pano)? Worth a price check thru them as well.

You might do a search on replacement windshields on the 993 forum. Apparently some 993s had a squeeking problem with the OE windshield from the start. There were several threads discussing replacement windshields, with some advising replacement with OE glass. Proper installation also seemed important to avoid squeeking glass.
