Post Question for Adrian Re: 964 Options

Adrian - I just decoded the options on my car ( <a href="http://www.kindel.com/Porsche/options.asp" target="_blank">http://www.kindel.com/Porsche/options.asp</a> ) and got two of interest.

The first code of interest is 980 (Seat Cover - Raff - Leather). My car's front seats have leather seating surfaces, and the backs of the front seats are vinyl. The rear seats feel like leather, as well. On both the front and back seats, the leather appears to be "tufted" toward the tops of the front seats - similar to what I think used to be referred to as "supple leather" -is that was "Raff - Leather" refers to?

The second code of interest is 09991 (manufacture from exclusive programme). My car is a "standard issue" non-metallic black exterior/black convertible top/tan interior 1991 Carrera 2 cab. Its only options are the ones listed above, plus:

c02 - catalyst
xd4 - Porsche crest wheel caps
286 - high intensity screen washer
288 - headlight washers
437 - comfort seat left
454 - auto speed control (cruise control)
494 - 2 rear speakers/amplifier
691 - CD-1 CD player
935 - rear seat cover (boot?)

Do you know why a "standard issue" car like mine would come from the Exclusive Programme? Does this mean anything?

Thanks very much for your insight.

I would suggest one of tweo possibilities.
1/. It was sent over the road of capacity problems or there was a delay in some of the parts needed and they had them at Exclusive or
2/. The interior needed Exclusive to install it.

"Raff leder" means gathered up leather. Scrunched up. This would most likely have to be carried out by Exclusive because it would take some effort to get the right effect.

Please understand these are assumptions on my part purely based on experience.

Ciao,
Adrian

Thanks Adrian! "Scrunched-up" is the perfect word for the leather - I thought that they were all like that until I saw a 911 on ebay with "smooth" leather seats.

FWIW, my '93 C2 coupe with nonmetallic black paint also has the "exclusive programme" designation. I went over this with Adrian about a year ago and we couldn't figure out what it meant with respect to my car. It could be coincidence or a "nonmetallic black thing."

Please remember that the 964 period 1989-1994 was one of some confusion and uproar at Porsche. Some things from this timeframe just cannot be explained. Some times there are clues like interior issues and sometimes, it does not make any sense or cannot be explained.

Adrian - this is what my seats look like (except in cashmere, rather than black):

That certainly look s like something from Porsche Exclusive. Very nice actually. I have sports seats with very bland normal leather. Mind you they are the most comfortable seats I have ever had. I will need them on Friday. I have some Turbo driving to do. Commute in the C4 and then go blasting then drive C4 home, well the next day anyway.

I think the "exclusive programme" was a special program where they added special soft leather seats to the cars and then loaned them to super models who drove them around buck naked. Or something like that?
