Default Seam Weld...Where?

When you seam weld a 964 to add strength what actually gets seam welded. The car is made up of loads of seams. Which are the crucial ones????

Thanks

These might not be all of them, but here are some pics of a few seam welds on the Carrera Cup cars.

The 964 Factory Manual lists all of them.

As Bill mentioned the factory service manuals have an entire section on the Carrera RS including what to remove, and where to seam weld. I'm going throught that process now but decided to seam weld every seam lik the newer 996GT3 RS cars. It really isn't seam welding but stitch welding where every 25mm is welded. This allows for the panel to be disassembled in the even of damage, and it doesn't warp the chassis. Also, if you want to seam weld the chassis, you'll need to remove all of the seam sealer. I had my chassis baked and acid dipped to remove it. If you choose to use a torch, be aware that the fumes are toxic.

That is the status of the car basically. I'm having a custom cage installed right now (the only part of the project I'm not doing.) I expect to have the car back in a week or so and will update my avitar. I'll also take some pictures of the seam welding and the air jack tube installation, and the qtr panel installation, and the roof replacement.

I second the request for more pictures. There's a great thread going on right now over in the 914 forums showing how one guy's creating a 914 GT lookalike. It would be great to have a step-by-step transformation thread here so we could all see how you're building your car from step one. Of course, that's a lot of work so I won't blame you if you just shoot us some awesome pics now and then.

It is my intention to post pictures as I go along if there is interest. I have posted pictures of the centerlock parts, air jacks, BBS Magnesium wheels CF doors, and lexan windows. Future pictures will include the RSR engine (possibly 4.0l) with ITBs, 6 speed, GT2 Evo suspension, motorsport axles, MoTeC ADL dash, etc.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I solemnly promise to enjoy every picture you post along the way.
