Seats - 2 questions
OK, its a nice summer day - I have a couple of hours without the family so its into the garage to look at my summer to-do list for my C4.
First up seats. I want to follow Adrians great advice and give my long legs that extra 22mm room. Also I have a pair of 993 Twin Turbo seats on the way so I want to prepare for those.
PROBLEM
1. My 8 way drivers side seat will not move forewards or backwards. All other directions work with typical Teutonic efficiency. The switch responds (with a slight shudder) but there is no seat movement. Not to worry thinks I, lets do this manually. But when I insert the tool the end just rotates. It looks like there are a pair of white nylon gears and one is not moving so the one on the end of the tool skips out of socket and rotates Any thoughts??? Anyone seen this before? At the very least I want to move the seats enough to remove them...............
2. ............because I have a pair of new seats coming. Question will standard 993 Twin Turbo seats fit straight in to my 964 or do I need any brackets etc.....
Any help gratefully recieved....

Your 993TT will bolt right in. Make sure that your drive cables are not bound up. disconnect them from the drive motors and apply power to the motor to see if the motors turn. It is a process of elimination. Good Luck

Dear Ruairidh,
I have to caveat the answer you received from Kevin. It depends upon the seat rails you have installed. Standard 964 rails will accept the seats. Sports seat rails may not. If you have the sport seats options 383 and 387 you need to check this. Why you ask. The sports seats are out of the 944 and the rails are different.
Ciao,

Don't know about fitting new seats, but I do have experience with the problem you mention (fwd/Bkwd).
In my case, there were two problems:
1. -- the cables somehow got misaligned, so that when the left side was at the end of its run, the right had a little left to go. What resulted was the seat would bind in the rails, and lock up.
2. -- I tried to run it forward once with the hand tool, and the cheesy little plastic gears ate themselves up.
WTD?
You remove the seat, replace the gears, and at this time you can tweak the alignment of the cable so it runs out straight. The gears were cheap. When you remove the seat you can see how the cables are worm gear driven to two followers at the end of the run that pulls/pushes the seat.
With the seat out, you can adjust the alignment of the cable so both ends are flush. It seems to me you twisted the cable on one side or the other until they balanced.

Adrian - thanks for the info. I believe that the seats are the standard 993TT (i.e. not the sport seats). Hopefully they will slot straight in - but we all know how seldom that happens
Incidentally the lack of fore and aft movement was down to a stuck drive cable on the left hand side. Once you follow the advice in the link I posted before it is easy to get the cables out. Both of mine looked in good condition so I simply switched them round, reconnected and eureka - I have a seat that moves in all 8 directions.
THANKS

Dear Ruairidh,
I was actually talking about the seats you currently have installed in your C4. Not the seats you are getting. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Adrian - My mis-read. I'm still hopeful as my seats - I think - are the US 8 way partial leather ones rather sports seats.
Craig - thanks for the help - looks like you and I share the same view on the "manual" adjustment - I'd hate to ever have to rely on that.

Hi Riccardo.
[quote] Why are you getting the 993 TT seats?

If only my answer were as logical as your question
........basically its summer
so I have the "lets do things (aka spend money) on the Porsche itch". I cannot figure out what I want to do to the drive-train or suspension, so having bought some new wheels (Boxster S) I'm playing with the interior. New steering wheel; gear ****, door handles you know the drill. Some 993TT seats came up at a good price. While my current (partial leather) seats are in good condition I figure if I don't like the 993 seats better I'll resell them.
