Rocker sill trim cover strip replacement
Hi,
I'm working at replacing just the rocker sill trim cover strips (#5 & #6, below). I've looked at prior threads like https://rennlist.com/forums/964-forum/167292-rocker-trim-removal-just-pull.html
but I'm not sure if I have to remove the whole trims for door sills (#1 & #2, below) to do this or can I just pull the little rubber seal out and poke the new ones in (they shrunk, as they usually do).

I have to do the same but in my case I will remove the whole thing to repaint the bottom part that is black.... I know I will loose a few clips along the way...
Did you buy the rubber strip at the Porsche dealer or at a body shop supplies place???

I did this job a couple of years ago. I did completely remove the covers. They just pull off after removing all the under screws/bolts. Careful, as you can damage the fastners (3 and 7). I just used some epoxy weld stuff to fix the broken fastners. Anyway, with the sills off replacing the rubber trim strips is easy work. With them off, you might check with a local paint shop about the cost of repainting them. It will probably be less money than you think.

For 113.00 I wonder if this rubber strip is available at a body parts shop as a generic rubber trim

Buy 3 long sections and cut 4 short ones from the extra and then sell 2 of them Save $9 and get an extra $44 You almost could turn a profit.

There are a bunch of little notches artfully placed along the strips that mate to little projections in the grooves of the sill and the shark fin, designed to keep 'em in place. A generic one might work, but I suspect it'd shrink and become displaced even faster than the Porsche ones. Last August the strips were $26CDN for the long and $14 for the shark's fin one. Fun with Porsche pricing!

IIRC it was $21 for long bits and $11 for short bits (2 of each).

I guess I should just crawl under the car tonight and look but I'd like to be sure to get all the parts ahead of time as I have to order them from the US then wait 2 weeks to get them.....can't just pop out to the local dealer.

There are 2 #4 plastic-metal combination threaded clips on each shark fin, and at least one, at the front, on the sill. There MAY be 2 on the sill, sorry, not sure. John Miles's site says there are. Part number for #4 is ?999-591-916-40 as far as I can tell from the invoice, with nuts #15, part number 999-049-022-40. If you get all the nuts off before removal, they'll be reusable. But they're cheap. I broke a few. YMMV.
The pop-in all-plastic clips appear to be #3, part number ?999-507-373-00 - there are several along the length of the sills (and they're the ones that break easily) mated into female receptacles part number 999-702-160-40
Sorry to be vague, but the invoice just calls them all "clips" so I can't tell which part number refers to which number in the figure. I know the numbers are right, just not sure which number refers to the threaded and which to the pop-in. #16 is a metal clip for screw #18, reusable, which holds the bottom edge of the sill and shark fin together.
Unfortunately, it's hard to see what's what until you start taking the darn thing apart - all the plastic pop-ins are hidden behind the sills. I'd start by removing the shark fin on the LHS and work my way forward, remembering to remove the little access door behind the front wheel so you don't break the front threaded clip. Then you'll know what you're dealing with for the RHS where access is worse due to the oil lines and t'stat.
