rocker trim removal - just pull??!!
Hi Guys, I'm doing a little disassembly, and decided to check in first!
I am removing the rocker trim pieces - or trying to. There are little white clips (#3 below) holding it on - I've removed all the hardware from below, but am a little worried to just yank the panel off from the white clips.
Do I just pop it off? Will this damage the clip?
PET-guys: What's the part number for #5??! I can't find it on pelican.
After just paying $10 for an instrument light bulb, I want to break as little as possible!! Thanks!

Garrett,
Once you've undone the plastic nuts on the underside and at least one screw at each end, they DO just pull off.
Don't be tempted to reuse the female part of the fastners - they won't grip tightly enough next time. And some of the male ones will break.
I'll get the part number later, if no one else has.

P.S. Try to lever it away whilst leaving the white clips attached to the piece being removed, otherwise the bits on the cover that hold it in place can break.

The trim strips are:
964.559.293.01 (long piece, LHS)
964.559.294.01 (long piece, RHS)
964.559.295.01 (shark-fin piece, LHS)
964.559.296.01 (shark-fin piece, RHS)
Prices were OK from OPC in the UK - £6/7 per side IIRC
I was going to do mine this morning but the kids are away and a lay-in proved too attractive!

I'd also be keen to know where you can get #5 (beading between trim and body). You must have bought some lately, David I. Is it just from the usual places?
7 quid each is bizarrely cheap for a relatively large piece of Porsche. Think I'm going to add this to the to do list!

Burning Brakes
I just did this a short time ago to fix all the broken mounting points on the sills and shark's fins. There's a nice summary of the the procedure on John Miles's site: Technical - Body & Interior - last item on the page.
All the bits are brittle and the little loops that hold the pins and studs break very easily...try to break the pins themselves, they're cheap and easy to replace. The sills themselves are way overpriced and have to be painted when you get 'em new. The tricky one is the front one - it's held on by a nut, not a pushpin like the rest on the sill, accessed from a little panel behind the front wheel. It's also a bit of a pain to get to the front nut on the shark's fin on the oil tank side.

I just got done w/ removal and replacement of my right side rocker today. Four of the six clips were broken, plus one of two on the shark. Due to the long standing oil leak, which is now fixed I removed probably four,...............yes four pounds of dirt and sand from the rocker and sail! The previous owner lived in LA then Vegas and there was sand/dirt wet with oil layered about half way down. It was basicallly a dirt shelf. All better now. I will wait on the left side a bit. None are broken and the oil leak was on the right side of the car. Besides, I used all of the extra clips I ordered today.
